Reds vs. Dodgers Gameday
The Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers open a three-game series Monday night at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. Cincinnati enters at 69-74 after winning four of its last five, while Los Angeles leads the NL West at 86-57 following a four-game winning streak.
The Reds are coming off a 12-8 win over Milwaukee, with Elly De La Cruz driving in four runs. Los Angeles completed a sweep of Washington on Sunday, rallying for a 7-5 victory behind Mookie Betts’ three-run homer in the eighth inning.
Both clubs arrive in Los Angeles after winning their weekend series and producing plenty of offense.
The Dodgers played Sunday without Shohei Ohtani for a fourth consecutive game because of multiple physical issues, although manager Dave Roberts was hopeful he could return Monday. His availability remains an important storyline entering the opener.
First pitch is scheduled for 9:10 PM ET, with Chase Burns starting for Cincinnati and Los Angeles still listing its starter as TBD.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Odds & Last 5
The Dodgers enter Monday as home favorites around -149 on the moneyline, while Cincinnati is priced around +127. The Reds are getting 1.5 runs at approximately -171, with Los Angeles -1.5 around +142. The total is set at 8.5 runs.
Cincinnati has won four of its last five games.
The Reds took two of three from Milwaukee over the weekend, following Saturday’s 5-3 victory with a 12-8 win Sunday. Cincinnati also took two of three from San Diego immediately before that series, giving the club some momentum heading west.
Los Angeles has won four consecutive games.
The Dodgers swept Washington over the weekend, scoring five, six and seven runs in the three victories. Sunday’s 7-5 comeback moved Los Angeles to 86-57 and extended its lead atop the NL West.
Dodgers Stats
Los Angeles continues to own one of baseball’s most productive offenses. The Dodgers entered the weekend with a .256 team batting average and .335 on-base percentage, giving the lineup plenty of opportunities to create scoring chances.
Mookie Betts provided another reminder of that Sunday.
Betts delivered the decisive three-run homer in the eighth inning against Washington and finished with four RBIs. Tommy Edman added two hits, while Max Muncy returned to the lineup and collected three hits in the comeback victory.
Shohei Ohtani remains the biggest lineup question entering Monday.
Ohtani is batting .279 with 30 home runs and 80 RBIs but has missed four straight games while dealing with right biceps, left knee and neck issues. The Dodgers remain hopeful he can avoid the injured list, and his potential return would obviously add another major threat against Burns.

Reds Stats
Cincinnati enters this series with its offense producing some of its best recent results. The Reds scored 24 runs during their three-game weekend series against Milwaukee, including 12 in Sunday’s victory. They have now won four of their last five games.
Elly De La Cruz was at the center of Sunday’s offensive outburst.
De La Cruz homered and doubled while driving in four runs against the Brewers. Cincinnati also received three-hit performances from Juan Brito and Héctor Rodríguez, while Tyler Stephenson delivered a pair of RBI singles.
The Reds have shown considerable power throughout the lineup.
Sal Stewart has emerged as one of the National League’s top rookies, while De La Cruz remains a dangerous combination of power and speed. Cincinnati’s recent production has come against quality competition as well, with consecutive series wins over San Diego and Milwaukee before beginning this trip.

Reds vs. Dodgers Pitching Matchup
Chase Burns gets the start for Cincinnati with a 15-3 record and 2.79 ERA. The right-hander has piled up 171 strikeouts and has established himself as one of the Reds’ most dependable starters this season.
Monday comes with an important wrinkle for Burns.
Cincinnati plans to begin managing his workload more carefully after he has already surpassed his previous career high in innings. The Reds have indicated Burns will work with a reduced pitch count against Los Angeles, potentially putting more responsibility on the bullpen than usual.
Burns still brings dominant stuff into this matchup.
He battled through his previous start against the Cubs and has consistently shown the ability to miss bats. Facing a deep Dodgers lineup at Dodger Stadium represents another significant challenge, particularly if Ohtani is cleared to return.
Los Angeles has not announced a traditional starter for Monday.
That creates additional uncertainty on the other side of the pitching matchup and could require the Dodgers to piece together innings with multiple arms. With Burns facing a workload restriction and Los Angeles keeping its pitching plan flexible, both bullpens could become important earlier than usual.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers bottom line: Cincinnati brings a red-hot offense and Chase Burns to Los Angeles, while both pitching plans could create opportunities once the game reaches the bullpens.

Reds Dodgers Free Pick: Over 8.5
Here is my Reds Dodgers free pick:
I’m going Over 8.5 here, and this one has more to do with the pitching setup than simply chasing two hot offenses. Chase Burns is excellent, but Cincinnati plans to manage his workload Monday. That could get us into the Reds bullpen earlier than usual.
Los Angeles hasn’t announced a traditional starter either, so there is some uncertainty on both sides. Against a Cincinnati lineup that just scored 24 runs in three games against Milwaukee, I’m comfortable betting that somebody eventually finds a vulnerable arm.
The Dodgers certainly haven’t needed Ohtani to generate offense lately. They scored 18 runs while sweeping Washington and finished the series with Sunday’s 7-5 comeback victory.
Give me two active offenses and uncertain pitching workloads, and I’ll lean toward runs.
Cincinnati brings some momentum of its own after winning four of five. The Reds put up 12 on Sunday, and De La Cruz remains the kind of hitter who can turn one mistake into instant offense.
There is always some danger backing an Over with Burns starting, but his expected pitch restriction changes the equation. Los Angeles could also get Ohtani back after four missed games, which would only strengthen the case.
Eight runs don’t beat us at this number. My MLB betting system sees enough scoring opportunities to play the Over 8.5.
