The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers close out their series at Miller Park as the Cubs look to extend their lead in the NL Central.

The Cubs are six games above .500 and possess a three-game lead in the NL Central, despite struggling to score runs. Chicago’s .226 batting average is 26th in the majors, and their 7.2 hits per game is 28th. Those are not numbers we are accustomed to seeing, especially with guys like Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, and Kris Bryant in the lineup.
The Cubbies will send Alec Mills to the mound to face the Brewers. Mills, who has been hit-or-miss this year, was lights-out in his previous start against the Reds after pitching six innings of shutout baseball in a 3-0 victory.
The Reds’ possess one of the worst offenses in the majors, but Milwaukee hasn’t been much better this year.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers need to start winning if they want to make the postseason. With fewer than 20 games to go, there is little room for error for the Brew Crew as they enter this game two games under .500.
Milwaukee will send Adrian Houser to counter Mills in this contest, which should not inspire much confidence in Brewers’ backers. Houser has surrendered at least four earned runs in five of his last six starts and hasn’t notched a win since July 22.
The Brewers have actually found luck against the Cubbies, winning the last four games against the North Siders.
If they are going to continue that trend, they’ll need to score more runs than the 4.2 they are scoring per game, good enough for 24th in the majors.
