2017 MLB All Star Game Odds: American League
Six American League starters are playing in their first All-Star Game. Carlos Correa and George Springer don’t feel like they’ve come out of nowhere but then there’s Justin Smoak and Corey Dickerson, who are enjoying breakout seasons in the AL East. Jose Ramirez and Aaron Judge are the other two virgin All-Stars starting for the AL.
Mike Trout still got enough votes to start even though he hasn’t played since May. He’s rehabbing but won’t play on Tuesday. Mookie Betts takes his spot and joins Ted Williams as the only other Red Sox player to start multiple All-Star games before turning 25.

All signs point to Chris Sale starting for the second consecutive year. Sale last started on the sixth of this month against Tampa Bay.
Brad Mills hasn’t made the announcement yet but it feels impending. Sale has been, without a doubt, the best starting pitcher in the AL this season for Boston.
Dellin Betances would have been one of Brad Mills’ top choices out of the bullpen and probably still will be but he’s had trouble throwing strikes lately. The All-Star Game could be a tough time to correct that.
2017 MLB All Star Game Odds: National League
The NL’s starting lineup is older with more experience. Zack Cozart is the only first-timer after just coming off the Disabled List a week ago. Hometown outfielder Marcell Ozuna, Charlie Blackmon and Ryan Zimmerman are all playing in their second mid-summer classic.
Zim will be joined on the right side of the infield by his teammate Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper will be behind them. Blackmon will be in center with his teammate Nolan Arenado at third.
No one from either the Major League-best Dodgers or Central Division-leading Brewers is in Joe Maddon’s starting lineup.

There’s speculation Max Scherzer will get the ball for the first pitch. He started for the AL in 2013 when he was still with the Detroit Tigers.
Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball but Scherzer threatening to invade his tier from the second tier of Chris Sale and Corey Kluber. He’s got a 0.78 WHIP with 173 strikeouts this season. Kershaw became the only pitcher to strikeout 300 in a season since 2002 when he did so in 2015. Max has an outside shot this year.
Look for starting pitchers Alex Wood, Carlos Martinez and Zack Greinke to all get at least an inning.
Free American League vs. National League MLB Prediction: it stays under 10.
There haven’t been double-digits scored in an All-Star Game since 2005. That’s 11 straight games that would either push or go under this year’s total. The home runs are up and there are some pitchers on both sides who won’t be available because of recent appearances, which is always the case.
I don’t think the general trend of games going low is purely a coincidence, though. You’ve got the best pitchers in the world throwing an inning at a time and that makes it awfully tough for the offenses, even if they are stacked.
The AL’s lineup is a little beefier than their counterpart’s. You’ve got more power with guys like Judge, Correa and Springer. Everybody is really a power hitter, even Sal Perez has 18 home runs this season.

Parlay it with the American League if you want to have a little more fun. Prop bets should be rolling out today and tomorrow, too. Tuesday’s a game for good, degenerate fun.
