Brewers 2017 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2017 Milwaukee Brewers predictions? This is what we think the Brewers are going to look like this season. In here you’ll find the projected lineup, pitching rotation, bullpen and how we think they are going to play throughout the season.
MLB Brewers Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The Brewers have not been much of a factor lately. It is kind of tough in a division with the Cubs, Cardinal and Pirates. Not much is expected to change this season.
What the Brewers are lacking is that foundational piece. Ryan Braun is still able to hit but he is not exactly the player you want to build around at this stage of his career.
2017 MLB Team Previews – Milwaukee Brewers
- National League Central +3300
- National League +7500
- World Series +20000
Key Additions:
- Neftali Feliz
- Eric Thames
- Travis Shaw
Thames was left for dead but is back from Japan and looking to prove he is MLB ready. It feels like a reach to expect too much.
Shaw is a guy who never quite fit into the Red Sox plans but he can play. If you put him in there every day he will produce.

Feliz is still a quality lefty reliever who can close in a pinch, he’s done it before.
Key Losses:
- Chris Carter
- Tyler Thornburg
Carter led the NL in homers last year but his boom/bust style is not the way they want to go. Thornburg will be missed but they netted Shaw in a trade.
Brewers Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- 2B Jonathan Villar
- CK Keon Broxton
- Ryan Braun
- 3B Travis Shaw
- RF Domingo Santana
- 1B Eric Thames
- C Andrew Susac
- SS Orlando Arcia
The thing that stands out most about this lineup is the speed at the top. Villar and Broxton combined for 85 steals last season. Expect more than 100 from that group this year.
Equally noticeable is the lack of power. Braun hit 30 homers last year but I am not sure anyone else on the roster has ever hit more than 20 homers. Nor can they be expected to.
Scoring might be tough lower down in the lineup.
BrewersPredictions: Projected Rotation:
- RH Junior Guerra
- RH Matt Garza
- RH Zach Davies
- RH Chase Anderson
- RH Wily Peralta
There is not a lot to fear with this group. Matt Garza is the most recognizable name in the rotation but he has been around too long to think that he is going to all of a sudden liver up to the glimpses we have seen.

Junior Guerra kind of came out of nowhere last season and put up very good numbers over a little more than half a season.
Given that is the first time he has done it you have to take it with a grain of salt…and he is their ace.
Brewers Predictions: Projected Closer:
- LF Neftali Feliz
They have a couple of other options but Feliz has the most experience in the role and they might want to build him up to trade him.
Corey Knebel has the kind of stuff that profiles well at the back end of the bullpen but has little experience being in that role and gets hit a little too easily
Jacob Barnes is another live arm they like a lot but his experience is even less than Knebel. I think they got Feliz so they can give both of these guys and maybe a few others some more time to get comfortable in the Majors.
2017 Milwaukee Brewers Prediction:
Milwaukee has not made the playoffs in 5 seasons and this is not the club to break that streak especially in the division they are in. The near future does not look great either.
It is hard to find a real strength of this club. If I had to point to anything they might lead the NL or the Majors in steals but I am not sure how that is going to translate to wins and losses.
The ceiling for this club looks like third place and the floor slipping below Cincinnati.

In terms of betting strategies I am not sure where to go with this group. Last year they were very profitable against lefties +18 units but without Carter and a more contact driven approach I am not sure that number will hold.
Their pitching is light so I am inclined to look at the over but I am not sure this group is going to score with much consistency.
