Thursday, October 27th, finds the LA Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder playing their second consecutive game in OKC. In the first game on Wednesday, the Thunder finally broke through for their first victory of the season.
The Lakers, Kings and Magic are the only teams without a victory while the Blazers and Bucks are the last two unbeaten squads.
It was the second consecutive loss for the Clippers who fell to the Suns the match prior.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Clippers winning two of the three contests in the regular-season series. The Thunder holds the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 141 of their 225 matches.
LA Clippers
Head Coach, Ty Lue commented after the loss on Wednesday about how all the small things matter when you’re shorthanded. Paul George was out with an illness as was Kawhi Leonard for precautionary reasons due to his surgically repaired knee experiencing some soreness.
It’s understandable what Lue was saying but on the other hand, the Clippers are cited as having the deepest team in the association often considered to have more than two lineups worth of starters.
As I noted in the last preview though having all that depth can sometimes be a blessing or a curse because the players have to be able to adjust to drastically different roles from game to game.
Tuesday was one of those nights where the others had the opportunity to take more shots but struggled to find a rhythm. Four Clippers hit double-figures with Luke Kennard (15) being the high scorer.
Ivica Zubac was the only starter to reach that marker with a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds while John Wall (12) and Robert Covington (10) were the others.
Reggie Jackson (4 of 17) and Norman Powell (3 of 10) struggled with the extra Thunder defensive attention.
Paul George (illness) is probable, Marcus Morris Sr. (personal) is questionable for Thursday and Leonard (knee) has already gone back to LA.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Lue’s comments about being shorthanded were ironic considering their opponent. OKC lost Chet Holmgren before he played a single game of his rookie season and on Tuesday were also missing Josh Giddey as well as rookie Jalen Williams who has quickly become part of the core.
Granted, the Thunder are purposely tanking but they compete regardless of who suits up, never conceding no matter how far they fall behind or who is dressed.
Although Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (hip) was initially listed as out he ended up playing and made an immediate impact and was the best player on the court.
SGA offered 33 points on 11 of 22 from the field, was 2 of 2 from deep plus continued his perfect season from the line hitting all nine free throws. The Canadian was productive all over the court adding eight assists, five rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
Tre Mann scored 25 points while Aaron Wiggins registered a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and Kenrich Williams was the other double-figure contributor with 10 off the bench. Mike Muscala was two points shy of a double-double (8 points, 10 rebounds).
Josh Giddey (ankle) is out. Jalen Williams (orbital fracture) is out until November. Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Clippers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games.
- OKC is 12-6 ATS in their last 18 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of the Clippers’ last 6 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Oklahoma City’s last 5 games at home.
Free LA Clippers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
With the NBA implementing these MLB style two-game sets in the same market it makes it tough for teams because unlike baseball in this sport when you play the same team twice in a row it’s typical for a split.
That should hold true with these two teams since George is back and the Thunder are without Giddey (and still tanking). Although — I like OKC to keep it closer than the seven points and not concede the game entirely
