Huskies vs. Trojans Gameday
The Washington Huskies visit the No. 18 USC Trojans Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Washington enters 3-1 overall and 0-1 in Big Ten play, while USC is 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Kickoff is set for 4:30 PM PT and 7:30 PM ET on NBC.
Both are also trying to respond to their first loss of the season. Washington fell 27-24 to Minnesota, while USC dropped a 41-27 decision to Oregon.
Somebody gets the bounce-back game Saturday. The loser gets another week of very creative explanations.
This is Washington’s first road game after opening with four straight at Husky Stadium. The Huskies have won three consecutive meetings with USC, including a 52-42 shootout in their last trip to the Coliseum in 2023.

Washington Huskies vs. USC Trojans Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make USC a substantial home favorite. The Trojans are -371 on the moneyline, with Washington at +291.
USC is laying 9.5 points, while Washington gets +9.5.
The Trojans were tied with Oregon at 27 early in the fourth quarter before the Ducks pulled away. USC still produced 446 total yards, but its defense surrendered 504.
Washington’s loss had a different shape.
The Huskies trailed Minnesota 24-10 entering the fourth quarter before scoring two TD’s to make it a three-point game. Washington finished with only 40 rushing yards and converted just 1-of-10 third downs.

Trojans Stats
USC has scored 172 points through four games, with one of the country’s most dangerous passing attacks driving the offense.
King Miller gives the Trojans balance with 412 rushing yards, third-most in the Big Ten. Freshman Kayden Dixon-Wyatt leads USC with 372 receiving yards and has scored three TD’s.
The Trojans will be without linebacker Desman Stephens II, who is suspended for Saturday’s game.
USC’s defense also has something to prove after Oregon averaged 7.4 yards per play and didn’t turn the ball over. Gary Patterson’s group made some stops, but not enough once the Ducks found their rhythm.
Lincoln Riley still has plenty of ways to attack.
The Trojans can hurt teams on the ground or through the air, and Washington’s challenge is preventing USC’s speed from turning ordinary mistakes into quick points.
Huskies Stats
Washington is averaging 395.8 yards per game, with most of its production coming through the air. The running game has produced 107.3 yards per contest and disappeared almost completely against Minnesota.
The defense has been the steadier unit.
Washington is allowing 16.8 points and 289.3 total yards per game. The Huskies have also shown an ability to create turnovers, something that becomes considerably more valuable against an offense as explosive as USC’s.
Washington’s defense has done its share. The offense occasionally needs to stop making that look like volunteer work.
The biggest concern is protection.
Minnesota sacked Williams seven times, and Washington has allowed 10 sacks through four games. That becomes a problem quickly if the Huskies spend Saturday playing behind the chains.
Huskies vs. Trojans QB Matchup
Jayden Maiava gives USC one of the most productive QB’s in the country.
He has completed 110-of-157 passes for 1,499 yards, 14 TD’s and two interceptions. Maiava leads the nation in passing yards and passing TD’s after throwing for 326 yards and two scores against Oregon.
Demond Williams Jr. gives Washington a different kind of threat.
The Huskies QB has thrown for 1,129 yards and seven TD’s while remaining dangerous with his legs. Against Minnesota, Williams passed for 239 yards and two TD’s and added a rushing score, although two interceptions helped put Washington in an early hole.

Maiava is the more accomplished passer in this matchup, and USC has surrounded him with enough weapons to stretch Washington horizontally and vertically.
Williams’ mobility gives the Huskies another way to move the chains when structure breaks down. He doesn’t need to match Maiava throw for throw, but Washington cannot afford to spend another afternoon asking him to rescue drives after protection failures.
USC would prefer to turn this into a scoring contest and let Maiava create separation. Washington’s best counter is controlling possessions, avoiding negative plays and making the Trojans earn their points instead of handing them short fields.
Washington Huskies vs. USC Trojans bottom line: USC owns the bigger offensive punch, but Washington has enough defense and QB mobility to make separation the real question Saturday.

Huskies Trojans Free Pick: Washington +9.5
Here is my Huskies Trojans free pick: I’m taking Washington +9.5. USC deserves to be favored at home, but I’m not convinced the gap between these teams belongs this close to double digits.
Washington has won seven straight following a loss, and I like that response angle with this many points in my pocket. The Huskies don’t need to outplay USC for four quarters. They need to avoid the one ugly stretch that lets the Trojans turn a competitive game into a comfortable win.
USC can be the better team Saturday and still leave my +9.5 ticket perfectly happy.
That’s where Washington’s defense matters to the bet. The Huskies have shown enough resistance to force USC to string drives together rather than live entirely on explosive plays, and every possession that ends without seven points makes this number more valuable.
USC has been excellent as a favorite, but laying this many points against a Washington team that has won three straight meetings is richer than I want to pay. I expect the Trojans to get pushed deeper into Saturday night than the number suggests.
Give me Washington +9.5.
