2025 Jessamine Stakes Handicapping
It’s opening weekend for the fall race meet at Keeneland Race Course, and that nicely coincides with just one month to go until the 2025 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
As such there are more than a dozen BC ‘Win and You’re In’ qualifying races being held around the US this weekend, and Keeneland gets in on the action with a trio of races on Friday alone. Those include the (G2) Jessamine for two-year-old fillies racing 1 1/16 miles on the Keeneland turf course. The winner gains automatic entry into the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf race to be held October 30 at Del Mar.
The race has drawn a field of 12 starters, with two others on the also eligible list and offers some excellent betting value. Over the past 10 years, two winners of the Jessamine (Rushing Fall 2018, Aunt Pearl 2020) have gone on to win the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf , while last year’s Jessamine winner, May Day Ready, ran second.

2025 Jessamine Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Time To Dream Race Odds: 2-1
A perfect two-for-two after two races on the Saratoga turf this summer, Time To Dream is also already a stakes winner having won the PG Johnson Stakes at this distance by an easy five lengths.
She’s a mid-pack runner in a race that features several that like to close from a bit further back, and so she might be the one getting the first jump on the leaders as they turn for home. She will have to overcome a tough outside post draw.
2025 Jessamine Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Mackinac Odds: 9-2
Like several others in here, Mackinac comes in off a win at Kentucky Downs after just missing on debut where she started a bit slow but battled up to grab second sprinting at Saratoga.
Last out she raced mid-pack early and then showed a strong turn of foot to surge through the stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Here she stretches out and tries two turns for the first time, but pedigree suggests distance shouldn’t be a problem.
Aggressive Lime Race Odds: 8-1
Aggressive Lime broke running in her maiden start and never looked back, winning by an easy four lengths racing one mile at Kentucky Downs.
That race didn’t come back with the highest of speed figures, and she has another front-runner just to her inside to contend with. But she’s been training well and any step forward in her second lifetime start makes her a contender in this field.
Imaginationthelady Race Odds: 10-1
Almost a carbon copy of the one above, Imaginationthelady showed early speed on debut, battled with another runner through the first part of a one-mile event at Kentucky Downs and then cruised to victory by 1 1/2 lengths.
Breaking from an outside post, the jockey will have no choice but to go forward early once again, and then it’s a matter of how far her speed will carry her.
Here’s My 2025 Jessamine Stakes Free Pick
The undefeated record in two starts including a win at the distance makes Time To Dream the obvious standout here, and if she can work out a trip from the #12 post she could prove tough to beat.
While there are few with early speed in the race, none seem to be blazing fast and so I think a horse that gets a good stalking position early could have the advantage. With that in mind I’m going to take a shot and put Aggressive Lime on top. I think she can get a good trip out of the #3 slot, and can improve second start out with the added distance.
