2025 Juvenile Turf Sprint Handicapping
The Juvenile Turf Sprint kicks off Breeders’ Cup weekend at Del Mar, where they’ll race five furlongs on the Del Mar grass. The Juvenile Turf sprint is one of the newest races on the BC lineup, having first been run in 2018.
As noted above, Irish-bred horses have dominated recently, although it’s worth pointing out Twilight Gleaming was an Irish bred who ran in the US 12 times in his 14-race career.
Magnum Force last year has so far been the only winner in double-digit odds. At the same time Golden Pal and Four Wheel Drive are the only favourites to have won.

2025 Juvenile Turf Sprint Free Pick & Handicapping: True Love Race Odds: 7-2
One of five fillies entered here to take on the boys, this is familiar ground for True Love, who has made four of her six lifetime starts against males, in the UK and Ireland.
In the first of those she was beaten just 3/4 of a length by Gstaad, who is the 9-5 morning line favourite for the BC Juvenile Turf. Last out she was a 3/4 length winner of the (G1) Cheveley Park Stakes over Havana Anna, who she’ll meet again here.
Overall she has three wins and three runner-up finishes in six starts, with one win and one second-place finish in two starts at this distance.
2025 Juvenile Turf Sprint Free Pick & Handicapping: Cy Fair Odds: 6-1
In her final prep for the BC, Cy Fair shipped up to Canada and came from off the pace to win the five furlong Algonquin Stakes at Woodbine by 3 1/4 lengths in a field that included colts.
She has two wins and a second-place finish in three starts, and is one-for-one at this distance. She has also improved her speed figure with each successive start.
Havana Anna Race Odds: 6-1
As mentioned above, Havana Anna was just beaten last out in her first crack at the Group 1 level in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket. Prior to that she was the beaten favourite by a nose in a Group 3 race in France.
She has two wins and a runner-up finish in three starts at the distance, and has never been out of the money in the six races on her resume. While most of her races have been run over softer footing than she’ll have at Del Mar, the Cheveley Park was perhaps her best performance so far on turf rated good-fast.
Intricate Spirit Race Odds: 12-1
Just 3/4 of a length away from being unbeaten in three career starts, Intricate Spirit was last seen winning the (G3) Futurity Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths going six furlongs at Aqueduct.
This will be his first time trying the short five furlong distance, but he has lots of early speed and should be in the mix right out of the gate breaking from an ideal post position.

In general, older male horses are bigger and stronger than females, and typically that makes them just that little bit faster. But youthful energy and short-race distance can even things out, and in this race I think the fillies hold a really strong hand.
In both True Love and Havana Anna we have fillies that have already beaten colts, and that seem to be able to run well on firm turf. They’ve both have had long, tough campaigns through 2025 and maybe that takes something out of them, but I believe this race runs through those two shippers.
