2025 Arlington Million Stakes Handicapping
The long-time featured race at Chicago’s Arlington Race Track, the (G1) Arlington Million was the first race in the United States to offer a $1 million purse, way back in 1981.
With the closure of Arlington, the race was run at Churchill Downs in 2022, and has been hosted at Colonial Downs since 2023. It will be one of three graded stakes at Colonial on Saturday.
The race has drawn a field of eight, and they’ll go 1 1/4 miles on the Colonial turf course. The past two winners of the race have been European-based runners, and there’s another in the field this year. The race also features a former Kentucky Derby champion making his debut on turf.

2025 Arlington Million Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Integration Race Odds: 8-5
Second in this race last year, Integration will be making his sixth consecutive start at the Grade 1 level and has three runner-up finishes to show for it in that span.
Last out he was second, beaten just a head in the (G1) Manhattan Stakes at Saratoga. He was just behind Deterministic, who last weekend won the (G1) Fourstardave Stakes, and just ahead of Far Bridge, who went on to capture the (G2) Bowling Green Stakes.
Three of his five lifetime wins have come at Colonial, and he was second in one start at the distance.
2025 Arlington Million Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Cairo Odds: 7-2
Shipping in from overseas, Cairo has been racing in tough company of late, last out finishing third in the (G1) Queen Anne Stakes where he went off at odds of 100-1.
Prior to that he was second in a Group 2 Stake, also in England, his ninth runner-up effort in 21 lifetime starts. On the other side of the coin, he is winless in his last 12 races over the past two years and winless in two starts at the distance.
Mystik Dan Race Odds: 9-2
The 2024 Kentucky Derby champion, Mystik Dan has had mixed results in his races since then, running second in the (G1) Preakness Stakes, and then being well-beaten in his next three starts.
More recently he was a winner two back in the (G3) Blame Stakes at Churchill and then was fourth last out in the (G1) Stephen Foster against a tough group that included last week’s (G1) Whitney Stakes winner in Sierra Leone.
This will be his first lifetime try on turf.
Fort Washington Race Odds: 4-1
Late running Fort Washington finished in a dead heat for fourth last out in the (G2) Wise Dan Stakes, but he was only 1 3/4 lengths off the leader going 1 1/16 miles. Prior to that he had back-to-back wins at the Grade 3 level, in the most recent of those he was able to close in the stretch despite chasing a very slow pace.

After the four listed above, all the other runners are 8-1 or higher odds in the morning line, and although I tried, I found it difficult to pick any of them as a value play.
On form and class Integration has to be the pick here, although you have to hope he goes off at least at his morning line odds. Both the UK shipper, Cairo and Mystik Dan come with questions. For the former that is obviously how he will do racing stateside for the very first time, for the latter it’s all about him making his first start on turf.
I’ll lean on the adage of never betting a horse trying something different for the first time and take Integration on top with Fort Washington in the exacta.
