2020 Raven Run Stakes Handicapping
The feature race of 10 on the Saturday card at Keeneland is the (G2) Raven Run Stakes for three-year-old fillies going seven furlongs on the Keeneland dirt course.
The race has drawn a solid field of 10 with a pair of big favourites and several others in with a shot and providing some good betting value. For at least a couple, the Raven Run will serve as a final prep before the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint to be held at Keeneland on November 7.

2020 Raven Run Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Venetian Harbor Race Odds: 7-5
Never out of the money in her six lifetime starts, Venetian Harbor has two wins and four runner-up finishes in that span. She has been taking on some of the best in her class, with both of her last two efforts at the Grade 1 level.
She was no match last out in the (G1) Test Stakes, finishing well behind Gamine, who currently sits as Bovada’s 2-1 favourite for the BC F&M Sprint. Prior to that she was a closer second in the (G1) Ashland after setting the pace while trying to stretch out to 1 1/16 miles.
Both trainer Richard Baltas and jockey Manny Franco are looking for their first Raven Run win.
2020 Raven Run Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Four Graces Race Odds: 5-2
The second filly in the race looking toward the Breeders’ Cup, Four Graces has won four of her six lifetime starts and has been showing some blazing speed in all of her efforts.
Two starts back she set the Keeneland track record for seven furlongs on the dirt in the (G3) Beaumont Stakes, despite the fact she won the race by more than four lengths and was geared down nearing the finish.
She’s trained by Ian Wilkes, jockey Julien Leparoux won the race back-to-back in 2016-17.
2020 Raven Run Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Reagan’s Edge Race Odds: 8-1
Another one in here with a very impressive record, Reagan’s Edge has five in-the-money finishes in five lifetime starts.
Her best efforts have probably come when running second in consecutive graded-stakes. In the (G3) Victory Ride at Belmont she was beaten just a head while closing on the leader in a race that tied the track record for 6 1/2 furlongs at Belmont Park.
Last out she was again runner up after closing on the leader late going six furlongs in the (G2) Prioress Stakes at Saratoga.
Up-and-coming Cherie DeVaux looks for her first graded-stakes win as a trainer, jockey Florent Geroux has one previous win.
2020 Raven Run Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Fair Maiden Race Odds: 15-1
An interesting option in here, Fair Maiden is making just her second start since running 12th in the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Turf.
Although she did have some success last year in turf racing, the connections started her on the dirt for the first time one month ago at the allowance level at Churchill, and she not only won the race, but also hit the first triple-digit Equibase speed figure of her career.
The trainer is Eoin Harty, jockey Corey Lanerie won the race last year on a 13-1 long shot.

There’s no denying the top two here are very fast fillies and either could be hitting the wire first. At the same time, this is a race that has produced a lot of upsets in recent history. The favourite has only won three of the last 10, with several double-digit winners in that span.
It seems like it’s worth it to take a shot and try to beat the low prices on the main contenders. Reagan’s Edge appears to be a improving filly who could benefit from getting a bit more distance than she had to work with in her last two, and I’ll bet her for both the win and place.
