New Orleans has lost each of its first three games but none by any more than eight points. The Warriors don’t have a win yet either but will get the chance to come into this game 1–1 when they go on the road on Sunday afternoon before this one on Monday.
Golden State Warriors
Golden State was waxed in its first game of the season and the first regular season game ever played at the Chase Center, 141–122.

Five guys on the Clippers, who were without Paul George, scored between 16 and 22 points, despite the team turning the ball over 17 times, compared to the Warriors’ 13.
Naturally, the media was ready to pounce on the Warriors, who most think will be closer to a team that may miss the playoffs than win a fourth title. I’m not so sure about that.
Golden State was missing Willie Cauley-Stein, who won’t make his Warriors debut until next week. It was also without Alec Burks, who is day-to-day with an ankle injury.
Neither of those guys are stars but they are two of the important acquisitions Golden State made in its transitional offseason. Both do a couple things very well and add depth to the equation.
But even without them, Steve Kerr played ten guys double-digit minutes, including second-year Omari Spellman and Marquese Chriss, who finished with eight points, four rebounds, and a steal in just over 14 minutes. Rookie Eric Paschall played over 31 minutes off the bench.
I just think the Warriors, while perhaps lacking the star-power they have been used to, have enough quality players to beat most all the bad teams in the league and compete with the good ones all season.
Keep an eye on Kevon Looney’s status ahead of this game. He left the Clipper game with a hamstring and didn’t return. He’s someone Golden State has to have available with Cauley-Stein still a week or so away.
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans lost an overtime game in Toronto on Opening Night of the NBA’s regular season, dropped its home opener by seven to Dallas, and then lost by three in Houston on Saturday night. It will have Sunday off to travel back home, while the Warriors are in OKC.

Brandon Ingram had 35 points and 15 rebounds against Houston and is averaging just over 27 points per game in his first three with his new team.
Josh Hart, starting in place of Jrue Holiday, who missed the game with a sprained knee, had 23 points and Lonzo Ball registered the double-double with 18 points and 10 assists.
Holiday’s status is crucial to this game because he’s the guy who will spend most of the time defending Stephen Curry. He’s considered day-to-day and we’ll see how another day of rest has him feeling going into Monday.

I just still believe in the Warriors, though I’ll feel better about them when Cauley-Stein and Burks are healthy. The Pelicans are a team they have to beat, if they are going to remain players out West.
