Volunteers vs. Gamecocks Gameday
The No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers visit the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Tennessee enters at 6-1, while South Carolina stands at 3-3.
Josh Heupel’s Volunteers have won three straight and are 3-1 in SEC play. They’re also 2-0 away from Knoxville.
Columbia isn’t an easy place to protect a ranking.
Tennessee brings the better record, but South Carolina has the weapons to make this a serious SEC fight.
Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks are 1-3 in conference play and 2-2 at home. They’re coming off a bye following a much-needed victory over Florida. That extra preparation gives Beamer time to address a defense that has been inconsistent.
Tennessee has the stronger overall résumé, although South Carolina has won six of the last eight meetings played in Columbia. History won’t tackle anybody Saturday, but it should keep the Volunteers’ attention.
It’s Week 8, Tennessee Volunteers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Tennessee Volunteers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks Odds & Previous Games
Tennessee opened at +110 on the moneyline, with South Carolina at -131. The Gamecocks are favored by 2.5 points, and the opening total is 50.5.
Tennessee defeated Alabama 26-10, Arkansas 24-17 and Auburn 24-14. The Volunteers also beat Kennesaw State 42-9 but lost to Texas 20-17.
Four victories in five games have kept Tennessee firmly in the national picture.
South Carolina beat Florida 38-19 and Towson 45-9. Its recent losses came against Kentucky 35-34, Alabama 49-18 and Mississippi State 41-34.
Tennessee won the last meeting 41-20 in 2023, while South Carolina delivered a 63-38 upset in 2022. The Volunteers also won 45-20 in 2021 and 31-27 in 2020.

Gamecocks Stats
South Carolina has scored 226 points through six games, averaging 37.7 per contest. The Gamecocks generate 232.3 rushing yards and 242.3 passing yards per game. That balance gives Beamer plenty of offensive flexibility.
Matt Fuller leads the backfield with 485 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Nyck Harbor has added 278 receiving yards and two scores.
There are several ways this offense can hurt a defense.
South Carolina has allowed 153 points, averaging 25.5 per game. The Gamecocks have recorded 16 sacks and four interceptions.
South Carolina can score in bunches, but its defensive inconsistency has made comfortable leads difficult to protect.
The Gamecocks allow only 103.7 rushing yards per contest, ranking among the SEC’s better run defenses. Their bigger concern is defending the pass, where opponents average 237.2 yards.
That leaves South Carolina needing more consistent coverage behind its aggressive front. One missed assignment can undo an otherwise excellent defensive series.
Volunteers Stats
Tennessee has scored 234 points through seven games, averaging 33.4 per contest. The Volunteers generate 217.1 rushing yards per game, compared with 188 through the air. Their offense has leaned heavily on a productive ground attack.
DeSean Bishop leads the backfield with 837 rushing yards and ten touchdowns. Mike Matthews has contributed 481 receiving yards and three scores.
Bishop has been the engine of this offense.
Tennessee’s defense has allowed only 103 points, averaging 14.7 per game. The Volunteers have recorded 30 sacks, consistently creating problems for opposing offensive lines.
They’ve also collected seven interceptions and six fumble recoveries. That combination has helped Tennessee control field position and limit opponents’ scoring chances.
Opponents average just 159.3 passing yards against the Volunteers. South Carolina will need to work considerably harder than usual to create openings downfield.
Volunteers vs. Gamecocks QB Matchup
LaNorris Sellers has thrown for 1,338 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions through six games. He’s completing nearly 62% of his passes. His combination of arm strength and mobility gives South Carolina options beyond conventional dropback passing.
Sellers has also rushed for 411 yards and two touchdowns. His ability to escape pressure makes him dangerous when protection breaks down.
Tennessee’s pass rush cannot afford to lose containment.
Faizon Brandon leads Tennessee with 697 passing yards, seven touchdowns and one interception in five appearances. The freshman has completed 61 of 101 attempts.
Brandon has generally avoided forcing difficult throws. His biggest challenge Saturday will be handling South Carolina’s defensive pressure in a hostile stadium. The Gamecocks will look for opportunities to test his experience.
Heupel has also used George MacIntyre, who has thrown for 592 yards and two touchdowns. Tennessee has options, but Brandon remains its primary quarterback.

Sellers needs to recognize pressure before the snap. If Tennessee gets home with four rushers, South Carolina’s passing options become considerably more limited.
Brandon can benefit from a disciplined approach built around manageable down-and-distance situations. He doesn’t need to match Sellers throw for throw to operate Tennessee’s offense effectively.
Both quarterbacks have shown they can create plays, but their responsibilities are different. Sellers carries more of South Carolina’s offensive burden, while Brandon can lean on an established supporting cast.
Tennessee Volunteers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks bottom line: Tennessee’s defense faces a demanding assignment against Sellers, while South Carolina must find a way to disrupt the Volunteers’ physical offensive approach.
Tennessee Volunteers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks Football Betting Trends

- Tennessee has gone 3-1 against the spread in games with totals of 50 or more in 2026.
- South Carolina is 23-7 straight up as favorites over their last 30 games.
- Additionally, the Gamecocks are 8-4 straight up after a win in their last 12 games.

Volunteers Gamecocks Free Pick: Over 50.5
Here is my Volunteers Gamecocks free pick: Over 50.5. Tennessee is 1-6 to the over this season, and I know exactly what that looks like on paper. I’m betting this matchup breaks the pattern.
South Carolina is 4-2 to the over, including 3-1 at home. The Gamecocks have enough offensive firepower to make Tennessee score rather than protect a lead.
That’s the difference I’m betting.
If South Carolina forces Tennessee into a scoring contest, 50.5 is within reach.
The Volunteers have gone under in five straight, but this is a different kind of opponent. South Carolina can create scoring chances in a hurry, and Tennessee has the personnel to answer.
Forget waiting around for another 20-17 SEC snoozer. I’m backing both offenses to deliver, and I’m playing Over 50.5.
