Horned Frogs vs. Bears Gameday
The TCU Horned Frogs travel to Waco for a Big 12 matchup against the Baylor Bears on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Kickoff at McLane Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on FS1. Baylor enters with a perfect home record and four consecutive victories.
The Bears are 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play under Dave Aranda. Their only defeat came in the season opener against Auburn, and they’ve responded with four straight wins.
TCU is 2-3 and has dropped its last two games. Sonny Dykes needs his team to respond before another conference loss puts the Horned Frogs further behind in the Big 12 standings.
Baylor owns the momentum, but TCU has the passing talent to challenge the Bears in Waco.
The Frogs have yet to win away from Fort Worth this season.
Baylor has protected McLane Stadium through three home dates, giving the Bears a clear situational advantage. TCU, however, has enjoyed considerable success in this rivalry over the past several seasons.
The matchup puts Baylor’s offensive balance against a TCU team searching for better execution. Neither coach needs a reminder of what this game means to the conference race.
It’s Week 7, TCU Horned Frogs vs. Baylor Bears, hopefully we get a great matchup.

TCU Horned Frogs vs. Baylor Bears Odds & Previous Games
Baylor opened as a 5.5-point favorite, with the Bears at -112 against the spread and TCU at -108. The opening moneyline lists Baylor -212 and TCU +177. The total is 48.5, with Over -106 and Under -115.
TCU lost 17-10 to BYU and 21-13 at UCF in its last two games. The Horned Frogs previously defeated Arkansas State 31-7 and Grambling State 63-7 before those conference losses.
The season began with a 15-10 defeat against North Carolina. TCU has scored 23 combined points over its last two contests, a sharp decline from its earlier offensive production.
Baylor’s latest victory was a 55-19 road win against Arizona State. The Bears previously defeated Colorado 23-13, Louisiana Tech 36-19 and Prairie View A&M 44-3. Auburn handed Baylor its lone defeat, 17-16.
TCU has won four of the last five meetings against Baylor, including a 42-36 victory in 2025. Baylor won the 2024 meeting in Waco 37-34.

Bears Stats
Baylor has scored 174 points through five games, averaging nearly 35 per contest. The Bears have generated 2,307 total yards, including 1,460 through the air. That production has given Aranda’s offense several ways to attack opposing defenses.
Dawson Pendergrass leads Baylor with 316 rushing yards. Caden Knighten has contributed 244 yards and two TD’s, giving the Bears another productive option on the ground.
Baylor’s rushing attack has produced 847 yards overall.
Baylor can move the chains on the ground without taking its passing threats out of the equation.
Defensively, the Bears have allowed 71 points through five games, an average of 14 per contest. Baylor has also recorded 18 sacks and recovered five fumbles.
That pass rush could create problems for a TCU offensive line that needs to give its quarterback time to work. The Bears have been particularly effective at forcing opponents into difficult passing situations.
Devonte Tezino and Cayden Tone have appeared on injury reports with undisclosed issues, while Jacob Redding has been listed with a season-ending ACL injury. Their final availability should be checked closer to kickoff.
Horned Frogs Stats
TCU has accumulated 2,027 total yards through five games, with 1,400 coming through the passing attack. The Horned Frogs average 25 points per contest, although their production has been considerably less consistent against stronger competition.
Jeremy Payne leads the rushing attack with 432 yards and two TD’s. TCU has 627 rushing yards as a team, leaving a substantial share of its offense dependent on the passing game.
The Frogs need more reliable production on early downs.
TCU has allowed 67 points through five games, an average of roughly 13 per contest. The defense has kept the Horned Frogs competitive even when their offense has struggled.
The unit has recorded 10 sacks and two interceptions. Against Baylor, generating pressure without losing coverage discipline will be especially important.
Michael Short and Devondre McGee have been listed as questionable with undisclosed injuries. Their status could affect the Horned Frogs’ available depth.
Horned Frogs vs. Bears QB Matchup
Baylor QB DJ Lagway has thrown for 860 yards in three appearances, completing 71 of 133 passes. He has eight TD’s against two interceptions and averages nearly 287 passing yards per game.
Lagway brings a strong arm and the ability to attack defenses beyond the short passing game. His challenge against TCU will be recognizing pressure and taking advantage of favorable coverage without forcing unnecessary throws.
TCU counters with Jaden Craig, who has passed for 1,400 yards and eight TD’s in five games. Craig has attempted 157 passes and thrown four interceptions.
Craig averages 280 passing yards per contest. He has demonstrated the ability to move the ball, but the Horned Frogs need that yardage to translate into more sustained scoring opportunities.

Lagway has the advantage of a more balanced supporting attack, while Craig carries a heavier share of TCU’s offensive responsibility. That distinction matters when defenses begin disguising coverage and increasing pressure.
Both quarterbacks can challenge secondaries downfield.
Baylor will look to keep Craig uncomfortable with its pass rush, while TCU needs to prevent Lagway from finding easy completions against favorable coverage. Protecting the football will be critical for both offenses.
TCU Horned Frogs vs. Baylor Bears bottom line: Baylor has the stronger offensive balance and home-field advantage, while TCU’s passing game gives the Horned Frogs a legitimate chance to challenge the Bears’ defense.

Horned Frogs Bears Free Pick: Over 48.5
Here is my Horned Frogs Bears free pick: I’m taking Over 48.5. TCU’s recent scoring struggles have helped keep this number below 50, but Baylor presents a different offensive challenge than the Frogs have faced in their last two outings.
The Bears have enough weapons to build a lead, and that’s exactly the pressure I want on TCU. A team catching 5.5 points cannot afford to fall behind and keep calling plays like it’s protecting a lead. Craig will have to push the football downfield.
Give me a Baylor lead and a TCU offense forced to throw, and I’ll take my chances with this total.
There’s another angle here: both defenses have shown they can generate pressure, and aggressive quarterbacks can turn that pressure into turnovers or short fields. We don’t need 12-play touchdown drives when one mistake can put an offense in scoring position.
My concern is TCU settling for FG’s instead of finishing possessions. Still, a 27-24 game gets this bet home, and Baylor has enough firepower to carry a larger share of the scoring if necessary.
I’m playing Over 48.5. The number gives us room for a slow quarter, and I’m backing these offenses to do enough damage over the other three.
