Oklahoma State enters at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play under Eric Morris. The Cowboys are 1-2 away from home, but they’ve turned plenty of heads with their offensive improvement.
Oklahoma State has rediscovered its scoring touch, and Iowa State could use a few defensive answers.
The Cowboys hammered Colorado 57-24 last Saturday, putting themselves one win away from bowl eligibility.
Iowa State is 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12 under Jimmy Rogers. The Cyclones have won 3 of their 4 home games, although the conference schedule hasn’t been especially kind.

Oklahoma State is listed at -343 on the moneyline, with Iowa State returning +271. The Cowboys are favored by 8.5 points, and the total is 57.5.
That’s a considerable number for a road favorite in a conference rivalry. The sportsbooks are giving Oklahoma State credit for its offensive production.
The Cowboys beat UCF 42-28 and West Virginia 41-24 before falling 35-32 at Houston. Earlier, they shut out Murray State 59-0.
Iowa State lost 24-10 at BYU and 31-17 to Utah. The Cyclones also beat West Virginia 45-42 and Bowling Green 55-7.

Cyclones Stats
Iowa State has scored 181 points through 7 games, averaging 25.9 PPG. The Cyclones produce 339.9 total YPG, with 163.0 coming on the ground.
Aiden Flora leads the rushing attack with 716 yards and 6 TDs. He’s been Iowa State’s most dependable offensive weapon.
The Cyclones have struggled to find balance, especially when opponents take away the run. Their passing attack has produced only 1,238 yards this season.
Iowa State can move the ball on the ground, but asking the passing game to rescue it is risky business.
The Cyclones have allowed 169 points, an average of 24.1 PPG. Opponents have gained approximately 370 total YPG against their defense.
Iowa State has recovered 6 fumbles and intercepted 2 passes.
Those takeaways have provided some relief, but the Cyclones still struggle to get consistent stops against stronger offenses.
Injuries have also tested the roster, including the receiving corps. Iowa State needs more reliable contributions from its available playmakers to keep the offense moving. That’s especially important against an opponent capable of scoring in a hurry.
Cowboys Stats
Oklahoma State has scored 280 points through 7 games, averaging 40.0 PPG. The Cowboys lead the Big 12 in scoring and average 529.1 total YPG.
Caleb Hawkins has rushed for 712 yards and added 272 receiving yards. He’s been a valuable option in both phases of the offense.
Wyatt Young leads the receivers with 639 yards and 6 TDs.
Justin Bowick has added 607 receiving yards and 7 scores, giving Oklahoma State another reliable downfield target.
The Cowboys allow 23.7 PPG and have limited opponents to 3.7 yards per carry. Their run defense has improved considerably from recent seasons.
Oklahoma State has recorded 7 interceptions, while linebacker Ethan Wesloski averages 10 tackles per game. He’s been one of the most productive defenders in the Big 12.
The Cowboys have also been effective in the red zone, allowing opponents to score on 76% of their trips. That ability to tighten up near the goal line has helped offset occasional defensive breakdowns. They’ll need more of it against a Cyclones team looking to regain its confidence.
Cowboys vs. Cyclones QB Matchup
Jaylen Raynor leads Iowa State with 1,107 passing yards, 7 TDs and 4 interceptions through 7 games. He’s completed 93 of 158 attempts, a 58.9% rate.
Raynor has also contributed as a runner. His mobility gives Iowa State another option when the pocket breaks down.
The Cyclones need him to be more efficient on early downs. Too many obvious passing situations have made the offense easier to defend.
Connor Moberly provides depth behind Raynor, having thrown for 83 yards in limited action.
Oklahoma State counters with Drew Mestemaker, who has thrown for 2,326 yards, 20 TDs and 6 interceptions. He’s completed 157 of 239 passes, a 65.7% rate.
Mestemaker has thrown for at least 300 yards in 6 straight games. His command of Eric Morris’ offense has made the Cowboys dangerous through the air.
Broderick Vehrs is the backup for Oklahoma State. He’s completed all 8 of his attempts for 61 yards and a TD.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time!
Mestemaker has been considerably more productive as a passer, while Raynor offers Iowa State a different dimension with his legs. Both QBs will need to handle pressure and avoid costly mistakes.
Iowa State wants Raynor operating in manageable situations rather than constantly facing long third downs. Oklahoma State will look for Mestemaker to maintain his rhythm against a secondary that has surrendered too many completions. The contrast in passing efficiency is one of the biggest individual differences in this matchup.
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Iowa State Cyclones bottom line: Oklahoma State brings a dangerous passing attack into Ames, but Iowa State’s home-field edge and rushing game give the Cyclones a chance to make the Cowboys work.
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Iowa State Cyclones Football Betting Trends

- Also, the Cowboys have a 3-0 record against the spread as favorites in their last three games this season.
- Iowa State has a 3-0 over/under record at home this season.

Cowboys Cyclones Free Pick: Oklahoma State Cowboys -8.5
Here is my Cowboys Cyclones free pick: I’m laying Oklahoma State Cowboys -8.5. The Cowboys are 6-1 ATS this season, and they’ve covered all 4 conference games. That’s the kind of consistency I want when laying points on the road.
Iowa State is 1-3 ATS as an underdog, and its offense hasn’t shown enough to make me comfortable taking the points. If Oklahoma State gets ahead early, the Cyclones could spend the rest of the night trying to catch up.
Ames can get loud, but the crowd isn’t going to manufacture touchdowns for the Cyclones.
My biggest concern is Oklahoma State’s defense allowing Iowa State to hang around. The Cowboys have given up points in bunches at times, and a couple of blown assignments could make this closer than it should be.
Still, the difference in offensive firepower is difficult to ignore. Oklahoma State has the ability to score quickly, and Iowa State hasn’t demonstrated the same ability to answer when games get away from it.
I’m expecting the Cowboys to take control before halftime and make the Cyclones chase the game. At this number, that’s enough for me. I’m backing Oklahoma State Cowboys -8.5.
