This SEC matchup features the Tigers traveling to Florida to face the Gators.
LSU comes in after arguably the worst loss in program history, losing to Troy last week, while Florida comes in after beating Vanderbilt by two scores.
Many LSU faithful are quickly regretting the hire of Ed Orgeron, as the Tigers never led against the Troy Trojans. Troy isn’t the talented upstart it was a few years so to see them control the whole was shocking.
Starting QB Danny Etling had an okay game, but really should have put up a more dominant performance. He finished the game 17-25 for 198 yards and two scores through the air, while also rushing for 57 yards.
The Florida defense is talented and athletic, so Etling may be in for a poor game and throw a couple of interceptions.
The LSU running game couldn’t be the force we are used to seeing, as they didn’t have a runner with over 70 yards on the ground.
Look for DJ Clark to be explosive in the passing game, as he caught 4 passes for 105 yards. He will need to beat the secondary deep in order for the Tigers to have a chance at theupset.
The Tigers normally dominant defensive line couldn’t slow down the Trojan running game, giving up 191 yards and a score to Jordan Chunn. Another performance like that will surely lead to a loss.
Florida has dealt with the injury bug all season long, and will turn to backup QB Feleipe Franks to lead them for the foreseeable future.
He was 10-14 for 185 yards ad didn’t turn the ball over, and should be able to manage the game and not throw them into a hole.
The Gators running game put up great numbers against the Commodores, as they got 5 rushing touchdowns.
Malik Davis had 17 carries for 124 yards and 2 scores, while Lamichel Perine had 15 carries for 58 yards and 3 scores.
These two provide an excellent 1-2 punch for the Gators offense and should see a number of carries in this one.
Tyrie Cleveland had 2 catches for 67 yards, and the speedster will need to build chemistry with Franks to keep the Tigers defense on their heels.
The Florida secondary will face an easier text this week, after performing poorly and giving up 3 touchdown passes to Kyle Shurmur.
He did not complete over 50% of his passes and that should give a boost of confidence to the Gators corners.
