Falcons vs. Cowboys Gameday
The Air Force Falcons head to Laramie to face the Wyoming Cowboys on Friday, October 23, 2026. Kickoff at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 9:00 PM ET on The CW. Both teams enter this Mountain West showdown at 3-1 in conference play.
Air Force stands 5-1 overall and has won four consecutive games. Troy Calhoun’s Falcons are also unbeaten in two road appearances this season.
One more victory would secure bowl eligibility for Air Force.
Air Force owns the better overall record, but Wyoming has made Laramie a miserable destination for the Falcons.
Wyoming is 4-3 overall and 3-0 at home. Jay Sawvel’s Cowboys have won two straight games and are gaining momentum at an important point in the season. Friday presents another opportunity to strengthen their position in the conference race.
The Falcons have struggled on recent visits to Wyoming, making this a demanding road assignment. Both teams have plenty riding on the result.
Somebody’s winning streak is ending Friday night.
It’s Week 8, Air Force Falcons vs. Wyoming Cowboys, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Air Force has won four of its last five games, defeating UNLV 41-31, Northern Illinois 28-7, Navy 14-9 and Nevada 36-33 in double overtime. The Falcons’ only defeat during that stretch came against North Dakota State.
The Bison won that September meeting 38-32.
Wyoming has gone 3-2 over its last five games, beating Northern Illinois 41-23, San Jose State 16-13 in overtime and Hawaii 27-10. The Cowboys also suffered a 28-0 defeat against North Dakota State. Central Michigan handed them a 24-10 loss earlier in that stretch.

Cowboys Stats
Wyoming has generated 1,298 net rushing yards through seven games, averaging 185.4 per contest. The Cowboys have added 1,025 passing yards, giving them 331.9 total yards per game. Their offense remains considerably more productive on the ground than through the air.
Running back Markell Holman has rushed for 402 yards on 72 carries. His production provides another option when opponents focus on the quarterback.
Wyoming needs that balance against Air Force’s disciplined defensive front.
Wyoming has improved its rushing attack, but sustaining drives against Air Force presents a tougher challenge.
Defensively, the Cowboys have allowed 146 points, averaging 20.9 per game. They’ve recorded 17 sacks and have shown an ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks. That pass rush has been particularly useful during conference play.
Wyoming has surrendered 366.4 total yards per contest, including 172.1 rushing yards. Those numbers leave little room for missed assignments against the Falcons.
Sawvel needs his front seven winning the line of scrimmage.
Falcons Stats
Air Force has rushed for 2,058 net yards through six games, averaging 343 per contest. The Falcons have generated only 390 passing yards, leaving little doubt about their offensive identity. They’ve scored 185 points while relying heavily on the ground game.
Owen Allen has rushed for 334 yards, while Rocco Conti has contributed 318. Both have helped keep the offense productive through changes at quarterback.
Air Force doesn’t need many completed passes to keep the chains moving.
The Falcons have allowed 118 points, an average of 19.7 per contest. Their defense has surrendered 295.7 total yards per game and intercepted five passes. That production has helped Air Force remain competitive when the offense struggles to finish drives.
Linebacker Blake Fletcher averages 10.67 tackles per game, giving the Falcons an active presence in the middle of their defense. His ability to diagnose rushing plays will be important against Wyoming.
Calhoun has enough defensive experience to make the Cowboys work for their yardage.
Falcons vs. Cowboys QB Matchup
Tyler Hughes has handled Wyoming’s primary quarterback duties through seven games. He has completed 98 of 155 passes for 1,018 yards, throwing three touchdowns and seven interceptions. His passing production has been inconsistent, although his mobility gives the Cowboys another way to challenge defenses.
Hughes delivered an impressive rushing performance against Northern Illinois, gaining 183 yards and scoring four touchdowns. He also completed 16 of 19 passes for 196 yards in that victory.
Air Force must account for his legs as well as his arm.
Hughes’ interception total remains a concern against a defense capable of capitalizing on mistakes. Wyoming needs him to protect the football rather than force throws into tight coverage. His mobility can help create manageable situations when the passing game stalls.
Air Force opened the season with Liam Szarka directing its offense. Szarka threw for 296 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions before suffering a season-ending lower-leg injury.
His absence forced an important adjustment under center.

Evan Medders has taken over the Falcons’ triple-option attack and emerged as a dangerous runner. He rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns against UNLV after gaining 114 yards against Northern Illinois. Medders has also completed five of 10 passes for 65 yards and one touchdown without an interception.
Medders gives Air Force a quarterback comfortable operating within its run-first system. Hughes offers Wyoming a similar rushing threat, although the Cowboys ask considerably more of him through the air.
Air Force Falcons vs. Wyoming Cowboys bottom line: Both quarterbacks can create problems with their legs, but ball security and control of the line of scrimmage will determine which offense gets the upper hand.

- The Cowboys are 3-0 straight up in their last 3 home games.
- Wyoming is 3-1 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.

Falcons Cowboys Free Pick: Under 44.5
Here is my Falcons Cowboys free pick: I’m taking Under 44.5. Air Force has covered eight of its last 11 road games, while Wyoming has won three straight at home. Neither team needs to force the issue early.
The Falcons can chew up a quarter with two productive possessions. Wyoming is comfortable keeping the ball on the ground, too.
That’s exactly the kind of pace I want when betting an Under.
The fewer possessions these teams get, the harder it becomes to reach 45 points.
My concern is a short field from a turnover or a special-teams mistake. One cheap touchdown changes the entire calculation. Otherwise, both offenses should have to work through long drives against defenses that have generally kept scoring under control.
I’m not buying a Friday night shootout in Laramie. A couple of stalled drives and a conservative fourth quarter can make all the difference.
Let the clock run.
Wyoming can make this uncomfortable for the favorite without turning it into a scoring contest. I’m expecting a close game where every possession matters.
I’ll take the slower pace and fewer scoring chances. Give me Under 44.5.
