East Carolina Pirates vs. Memphis Tigers Odds & Previous Games

East Carolina has gone 3-2 over its last five games. The Pirates beat Old Dominion 20-17, North Carolina Central 42-9 and Rice 28-12.
Their losses came against Appalachian State 27-24 and UAB 30-17.
Memphis also owns three victories in its last five outings, defeating UT Martin 45-21, Charlotte 59-8 and UAB 38-13. The Tigers lost 38-20 at Boise State and 31-17 at Tulane. Their offense has been explosive in victories but less consistent against stronger competition.

Tigers Stats
Memphis has scored 248 points through seven games, averaging 35.4 per contest. The Tigers have accumulated 1,924 passing yards and 1,658 net rushing yards. Their balanced offense can create problems for defenses that concentrate too heavily on one area.
Jaylin Carter leads the rushing attack with 780 yards and eight touchdowns. Stonka Burnside has contributed 341 receiving yards and three scores.
Memphis has plenty of ways to move the football.
Memphis has enough offensive weapons to punish East Carolina if the Pirates start missing tackles.
Defensively, the Tigers have allowed 156 points, averaging 22.3 per game. They have collected seven interceptions and recovered six opponent fumbles. Creating turnovers has helped Memphis overcome occasional lapses in coverage.
The Tigers have also registered 16 sacks, giving their defense another way to disrupt opposing offenses. That pressure becomes particularly valuable when opponents are forced into predictable passing situations.
Huff will want a sharper defensive performance after the loss at Tulane.
Pirates Stats
East Carolina has scored 141 points in six games, averaging 23.5 per contest. The Pirates have produced 1,102 passing yards and 933 net rushing yards. Their offensive production has been considerably more modest than Memphis’ output.
TJ Engleman Jr. leads the backfield with 490 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He gives East Carolina a dependable option when the Pirates can stay balanced.
That becomes more difficult when opponents build an early lead.
East Carolina has allowed 143 points, an average of 23.8 per game. Opponents have gained 1,125 passing yards and 834 rushing yards against the Pirates. The defense has generally kept games manageable, even when the offense struggles.
The Pirates have collected five interceptions and 12 sacks. Their defensive front must disrupt Memphis without leaving the secondary exposed to big plays.
One missed assignment against this Tigers offense can change a game quickly.
Pirates vs. Tigers QB Matchup
Marcus Stokes has handled the primary quarterback duties for Memphis this season. He has completed 121 of 181 passes for 1,841 yards, throwing 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. His 66.9 percent completion rate reflects the efficiency Memphis has enjoyed through the air.
Stokes has averaged 263 passing yards per game and can stretch defenses vertically. His arm gives the Tigers another way to attack when opponents commit additional defenders against the run.
East Carolina cannot afford to let him operate comfortably.
Air Noland has also appeared for Memphis in a reserve role. He has completed seven of nine passes for 83 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Stokes remains the established lead quarterback based on his workload.
East Carolina counters with Emory Williams, who has completed 68 of 104 passes for 655 yards. He has thrown seven touchdowns and two interceptions in five appearances.
Williams has been accurate, but the Pirates haven’t consistently generated explosive passing plays.

Mitch Griffis has also seen substantial action for East Carolina. He has completed 38 of 70 passes for 424 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. His experience provides another option if the Pirates need to adjust during the game.
Williams offers the stronger completion percentage, while Griffis has handled meaningful snaps. East Carolina’s quarterback rotation remains an important development to watch heading into kickoff.
East Carolina Pirates vs. Memphis Tigers bottom line: Memphis has the deeper offensive arsenal, but East Carolina needs efficient quarterback play and disciplined defense to keep the Tigers from taking control.

Pirates Tigers Free Pick: Memphis -10.5
Here is my Pirates Tigers free pick: I’m backing Memphis -10.5. The Tigers are returning home after a rough night at Tulane, and I’m expecting a much cleaner performance. East Carolina has shown some fight, but Memphis has the weapons to turn a competitive first half into a comfortable win.
The Tigers have won 14 of their last 16 home games, and that matters when laying double digits. Memphis has also gone 10-2 following a loss, giving me another reason to like the bounce-back spot.
I’m not paying for a pretty win here; I need separation on the scoreboard.
Memphis has the offensive edge to cover this spread, provided it doesn’t spend the night handing East Carolina second chances.
East Carolina’s problem is what happens when the Tigers build a lead. The Pirates are far less dangerous when forced to abandon their normal approach and throw on obvious passing downs. Memphis can make that situation miserable with pressure and a few well-timed stops.
My biggest concern is the backdoor touchdown, especially if the Tigers start substituting with a comfortable lead. That’s why I want Memphis attacking through the third quarter instead of trying to nurse a ten-point advantage.
Anybody who’s bet enough favorites knows how quickly a meaningless touchdown can ruin a perfectly good night.
The number is substantial, but Memphis has gone 24-6 straight up in its last 30 games as a favorite. That doesn’t automatically cash a spread, although it reinforces how often the Tigers handle opponents they’re expected to beat. I want that advantage translating into touchdowns rather than settling for field goals.
East Carolina may hang around early, but I see Memphis eventually forcing the Pirates into mistakes. A couple of short fields and one strong third-quarter stretch should be enough to put this beyond a late comeback.
Lay the damn points with Memphis -10.5.
