With captain Jonathan Toews officially back on the active roster, the Central Division-leading Chicago Blackhawks head to New York to take on the struggling Islanders.
The Islanders’ disappointing season continues and, coming off of two straight losses, the other team from New York will look to beat the Blackhawks at home.
Jonathan Toews is active and was on the ice for over 18 minutes on Tuesday night, so Blackhawks fans can rejoice.
The Blackhawks are coming off a tough 2-1 win against the Rangers, and are looking pretty good at 3-1-1 in their last five games.
The usual players have helped this team through a tough spell of injuries and are almost back to full strength. Artem Anisimov has been wonderful all year, especially stepping up during Toews’ absence. He has three goals and an assist in his last five games.
Hossa and Kane continue to lead this team. Hossa has three goals in his last five games. However, it’s been a bit of a dry spell for Patrick Kane.
He hasn’t scored a goal since November 26 but has helped his team by contributing eight assists in that span.
Goaltender Scott Darling continues to show that he isn’t destined to be a backup forever. In Corey Crawford’s absence, Darling is 7-2-2 with an impressive 2.02 GAA.
Chicago’s depth coupled with its consistency on both the offensive and defensive ends have the team poised for a second victory in New York this week.
New York Islanders
The Islanders can’t seem to stay on a good streak. After winning five of six, New York has lost two in a row in very poor fashion. A 6-2 loss to Columbus and a 4-2 loss to the Capitals has them dead last in the Metropolitan Division and grasping at straws.
Captain John Tavares has been one of the only bright spots for the Islanders all year. He has nine goals and 13 assists this year, including three goals in the last five games.
Center Anders Lee has come along recently as well. He’s put up three goals and two assists over the last five games, giving him 11 points on the year.
The Islanders rank 20th in the league in goals (73) for and also in goals against (85).
If one side of the ice is working, the other side may not be. This problem has led to a rough season and could lead to a very rough matchup against Chicago’s fantastic squad.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The total has gone UNDER in all of Chicago’s last five games
- New York is 9-4-4 at home this season
Free Chicago Blackhawks vs. New York Islanders NHL Hockey Prediction:
Both Boston and Pittsburgh are good teams. However, it’s hard to look at the Penguins’ recent performance and not see another win in their future. The high-flying offense of the Penguins should take care of the Bruins. I see Pittsburgh getting the W on Wednesday night.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Chicago +133
Chicago is 3-1-1 in the last five games, four of which played without Jonathan Toews. At full strength, with a tough goaltender in Scott Darling, the Blackhawks should take care of business and get the W.
