The Steven Stamkos-less Tampa Bay Lightning will continue trying to find an offensive identity against the streaking Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.
Tampa Bay has lost three straight and is 1-4 in its last five. On the other side, Calgary has been brilliant recently and has six straight wins including an 8-3 win against the Ducks and a 6-2 win against the Jets.
Tampa Bay Lightning
It has really been a rough road for the Lightning since losing Steven Stamkos last month. The team is 2-7-1 in its last 10 games and hasn’t shown any sign of turning things around. If this losing continues, the team will be out of the Atlantic Division hunt sooner rather than later.
Part of the issue is on the defensive end. In those last 10 games, the Lightning have given up five goals in four of the games, and four goals in two of the games. All of those resulted in losses.
Right winger Nikita Kucherov has been one of the few players to generate consistent offense. His 30 points (13G, 17A) lead the team by a wide margin but his play alone can’t win games.
Alex Killorn and Tyler Johnson have shown sparks of great play. Each of them has eight goals on the year, but have combined for only one total point in the last five games. These two will have to step up and help out Kucherov on the offensive end.
It’s going to be tough for the Lightning to beat the Flames in its current state. Tampa Bay will have to find some way to stifle the Flames’ offense and not let yet another team put up four or five goals.
Pittsburgh might be the scariest team in the NHL right now. In the past six games, all wins, the Penguins have put up 35 total goals, including an 8-goal game against Ottawa and a 7-goal shutout against the Coyotes.
The Penguins are one of the toughest teams to beat at home this season. Pittsburgh is 12-2-1 on the year, and 5-0 in its last five.
It’s no surprise that much of the Penguins success has to do with captain Sidney Crosby. He is having an amazing year thus far. His 21 goals lead the NHL and his 32 total points put him tied for second in the league. Crosby is on a seven-game point streak and has 12 points in those seven games.
The Penguins rank 2nd in goals for with 102 and Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel have combined for 44 of those goals.
Pittsburgh will look to continue its fantastic goal-scoring and get an eighth straight win against Boston.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Calgary is 6-0 in last six games
- The OVER is 3-2 in Tampa Bay’s last five games
Free Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Calgary Flames NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Flames are so good right now and the Lightning are just bad. Barring an unexpected bad night for Calgary, I don’t see any way the Flames lose this game.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Calgary -115
The offense should put up four or five goals and hold the Stamkos-less offense of Tampa Bay to one or two.
