The Celtics host Toronto, who got that overtime victory on Opening Night against New Orleans after getting its rings.
Boston lost its first game of the season in Philadelphia. There just wasn’t enough offense, which was fortunate for us, as we cashed an easy under.
I believe in this team’s regular season fortune. Boston will defend hard and run on offense. Gordon Hayward (25 points) looked good in his first action since his disappointing “first” season as a Celtic. Jayson Tatum scored effectively and Jaylen Brown showed some flashes on the offensive end.
But Enes Kanter got hurt and won’t play in Friday’s game. That sounds minor but it really isn’t; Kanter was Boston’s starting center on Wednesday and he’s kind of the only reliable big they have.
Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise and Robert Williams will cut his teeth with plenty of early minutes. Daniel Theis played ten minutes against Philly. Those two represent the only bigs Boston has available.
New York Knicks
The Knicks are one team that almost certainly won’t be able to take advantage of Boston’s lack of size in the middle.

They lost their opener in San Antonio on Wednesday but did manage to stay just inside the number and cover by a point, 120–111.
RJ Barrett scored 21 in his NBA debut and the former Celtic, Marcus Morris, led the team with 26 points. Julius Randle had 25 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three steals on efficient shooting splits and just one turnover.
But he’s still a face-up player who a guy like Jaylen Brown will be able to handle in the mid-range and into the low block. I don’t see him dominating a team that’s lacking on the interior.
Instead, I expect Boston to defend better and get easy baskets as a result. There may not be a ton of points to go around but the Celtics will get their easier and, as a result, win.
