Don’t let the atmosphere or the chants fool you, the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners are playing in Seattle.
As is the case with every series that sees Toronto Travel to the Emerald City, a wealth of Blue Jays supporters flood the stadium from Canada, despite the team they root for being hours upon hours upon hours away.
Yes, you could say it is slightly obnoxious.
Yet this atmosphere does one great thing: it heightens the tension between two squads dueling it out in the AL Wild Card race, and in game one Toronto starter Marco Estrada flirted with a no-hitter.
This series is gonna be fun.
In game one the Mariners were no-hit for much of the game and couldn’t manage a run across the plate until the ninth inning, falling 3-2 in the opener.
Game two will see Japanese starter Hisashi Iwakuma take the mound as he looks to be the workhorse he has all season, so far compiling a 16-11 record and 3.87 ERA.
And while Felix Hernandez still has the spotlight on him, Iwakuma has arguably been the much more dominant of late and will be a key cog in Seattle’s run at the postseason.
Offensively the Mariners continue to be more potent than not and are led by Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, and Nelson Cruz.
Don’t sleep on Seth Smith, however, as Smith had a 2 HR game in Seattle’s finale against the Astros and continues to be a key contributor for the Mariners.
Toronto Blue Jays
After a great start to their series against Los Angeles the Blue Jays faltered in their final two games, being held to just one run on Saturday and blanked on Sunday.
These losses continued a trend of low offensive production that continued mildly on Monday night in a close 3-2 win over Seattle, with the Mariners rallying for two late runs.
J.A. Happ gets the nod in this one as he looks for his 20th win on the year, and with a 3.27 ERA to date, Happ has a great shot to do so against a former team.
If the Blue Jays want to take game two, however, they’re going to need to find some offensive production as well against Iwakuma.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- J.A. Happ faced the Mariners on July 24 and recorded a win after tossing for 6 innings while giving up just one hit
- Happ has not lost a game since an August 25 loss to the Angels
- Iwakuma has a 2-1 record in September with a 2.70 ERA
Free Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners MLB Prediction:
Tuesday night has a ton of great pitching matchups and one of them is in Seattle as Happ and Iwakuma look to build towards postseason success.
And while it may feel like a home game for Toronto fans, I think Iwakuma will be dominant at home and lead the Mariners to a critical game two victory.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Seattle ML and game total under
These two teams are well-suited for postseason runs. While the Mariners have some rotation issues with the struggling Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma has been dominant of late and will pitch big under the lights of Safeco on Tuesday.
I don’t think this is going to be a high-scoring affair at all but do see the Mariners eeking out a close one.
