Let’s take a look in Ray Monohan’s Week 1 NFL Power Rankings.
1. New England Patriots (0-0)
The Patriots enter the season as the unquestioned leader of the pack. It’s almost difficult to remember a time when there was such a standout No. 1 team entering the season, but even with the loss of their top wideout, this year’s Patriots roster is loaded.
They had the No. 1 scoring defense a year ago, and that group’s only going to be better this season. And the offense added an elite pass-catcher in Brandin Cooks, not to mention the return of a healthy Rob Gronkowski.
2. Seattle Seahawks (0-0)
Adding Richardson to that defense was cruel to the rest of the NFC.
The Seahawks have underachieved to a certain extent the past couple seasons, so they’re an easy team to overlook. But their schedule softens a bit this season, and the offensive line played better than expected in the preseason.

Quarterback Russell Wilson is primed for an MVP-caliber season, so expect a big bounceback from the Seahawks.
3.Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0)
The offense is there for the Steelers. We know they can score points. Le’Veon Bell returned to the team this past week to solidify that, not to mention the return of Martavis Bryant.
The key for the Steelers is going to be the continued improvement of their defense. The young group has progressed steadily in recent years, and should take another step forward this year.
4. Green Bay Packers (0-0)
Having one of the two best quarterbacks in football makes you a perennial contender, and the Packers certainly have that in Aaron Rodgers. The weapons are there on offense, so the defense will need to stand tall to keep pace with that dynamic unit.
5. New York Giants (0-0)
The Giants loaded up on defense a year ago, and that unit took the major step forward it needed to.

The problem was the offense wasn’t able to keep up to its standards. So the front office devoted this offseason to retooling the offense, and that group is now stacked at the skill positions. Running the ball will continue to be a work in progress, but if Eli Manning’s arm doesn’t fall off, this should be a prolific offensive unit.
6. Oakland Raiders (0-0)
The Raiders were one of the legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl a year ago before Derek Carr went down. He’s back and healthy, as are all the other key players on the roster, as the Raiders again look to make a run at the top spot in the loaded AFC West.
7. Atlanta Falcons (0-0)
Last year’s Super Bowl blunder surely still weighs heavy on the minds of the Falcon players. But they made some good additions on defense in the offseason and are should be better on that side of the ball. And the offense is still in good hands, even with the loss of Kyle Shanahan as play-caller.
8. Dallas Cowboys (0-)
The Cowboys enter this season looking a lot like the group that’s found a lot of success in two of the past three seasons. There are some changes along the offensive line, but that’s still going to be the heart and soul of the roster.
Dak Prescott is under center, and a healthy Dez Bryant should make for a more explosive offense. But running the football will be key, both to keep the offense moving, and to keep an overmatched defense on the sideline.
9. Kansas City Chiefs (0-0)
The Chiefs are really good on both sides of the ball – more so on defense, but the offense certainly serves its purpose. But the AFC West is loaded this year, which won’t make acquiring a repeat first-round bye an easy feat.

And questions remain about whether they can truly contend with the AFC’s elite teams.
10. Arizona Cardinals (0-0)
The Cardinals are poised for one of the more notable bounce back seasons in the NFL this campaign. All the pieces are in place for this team to get back to the NFC title game, assuming Carson Palmer can stay healthy and return to form.
