2026 Week 5 NFL Power Rankings: Three Unbeatens and Plenty of Questions
The 2026 Week 5 NFL Power Rankings are getting interesting. Four games into the season, Kansas City, San Francisco, and Minnesota remain unbeaten, while a handful of supposed contenders are discovering that preseason expectations don’t put points on the scoreboard.
A 4-0 record doesn’t automatically make you the best team in football, just as a couple of losses don’t mean it’s time to start scouting next year’s draft. I’m weighing roster talent, quarterback play, coaching, recent performances, and whether a team looks capable of winning when the competition gets tougher.
Some clubs have earned their place. Others are surviving on reputation, and a few are making life considerably harder than it needs to be.
NFL Football Handicapping
Four weeks have given us enough football to start separating contenders from teams living off their August press clippings. The Chiefs have found another dimension offensively, the 49ers look dangerous when healthy, and Jacksonville is making noise in the AFC.
Then there’s Minnesota. Four wins, zero losses, and somehow the quarterback questions haven’t gone anywhere. That’s a pretty impressive trick.
I’m Razor Ray Monohan, and these are my 2026 Week 5 NFL Power Rankings.
Let’s see who’s earned the respect and who’s still borrowing it.
Razor Ray’s Top 10 NFL Power Rankings for Week 5
1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
The Chiefs could use another couple of reliable pass-catchers, and that offensive line still looks vulnerable. But Kenneth Walker has changed the way defenses approach Kansas City, giving Andy Reid a legitimate ground-game weapon to complement Patrick Mahomes.
Walker forces defenses to respect the run instead of focusing entirely on Mahomes. It’s opening things up in a way we haven’t consistently seen since the early Mahomes years.
Kansas City isn’t flawless, but a 4-0 start with an offense finding new ways to beat people is a convincing argument for the top spot. Imagine being the rest of the AFC and discovering Andy Reid has another toy.

2. San Francisco 49ers (4-0)
Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Mike Evans give San Francisco a ridiculous collection of offensive weapons. The concern isn’t what they can do in October; it’s whether that veteran core can stay healthy and productive when January rolls around.
For now, Kyle Shanahan has the whole thing humming, and Brock Purdy looks increasingly like a legitimate MVP candidate. Shanahan deserves credit for the system, but Purdy still has to make the throws—and he’s doing his part.
The 49ers are 4-0 because they’re talented, well-coached, and capable of attacking defenses several different ways. Health remains the question nobody can answer in Week 5.
3. Buffalo Bills (3-1)
Drake Maye and the Patriots finally handed Buffalo its first loss, spoiling what had been a perfect start. That doesn’t erase how good the Bills’ offense has looked under Joe Brady.
Josh Allen has plenty of weapons, and Buffalo has taken another step forward offensively. The defense, however, still has some explaining to do after allowing New England to steal that game.
Buffalo can win plenty of Sundays by outscoring opponents. Winning deep into January is a different assignment, and the defense needs to hold up its end of the bargain. Allen can’t clean up every mess.
4. Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Mike Macdonald is only in his third season with Seattle, but you’d swear he’d been running the place for a decade. He and John Schneider have built a roster that can absorb injuries without immediately turning into a weekly emergency.
Seattle has the defensive identity, roster depth, and coaching to remain dangerous even when the offense isn’t operating at full strength. The Seahawks also responded to their first loss by getting back in the win column against the Chargers.
They’re not unbeatable. Nobody is. But a team that can survive an ugly afternoon and still find a way to win is worth taking seriously when the playoffs arrive.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1)
Whatever Liam Coen identified in Trevor Lawrence late last season, somebody ought to put it in a coaching manual. Lawrence is playing with a confidence we haven’t consistently seen since his Clemson days, attacking defenses instead of looking like he’s solving a crossword puzzle before every throw.
Jacksonville’s defense has been just as important.
The aggressive approach has created turnovers, and if that ability to take the ball away continues, the Jaguars become a much more dangerous opponent.
Are those turnovers sustainable? That’s the question, but Jacksonville looks like a legitimate AFC contender rather than another team asking us to believe in its potential.
6. Chicago Bears (3-1)
Ben Johnson’s offense keeps finding ways to function, regardless of who’s taking snaps under center. Chicago has a diverse group of offensive weapons, and Johnson knows how to put them in favorable situations.
Of course, the quarterback conversation isn’t going away. The Bears could have another productive offensive season without finally producing that elusive 4,000-yard passer.
At this point, Bears fans might need to put that milestone on the same shelf as other long-running Chicago mysteries.
The bigger issue is whether the offense can keep winning games, and so far, it’s doing enough.
7. Minnesota Vikings (4-0)
The Vikings are undefeated, which makes putting them seventh an excellent way to annoy Minnesota fans. I can live with that.
Kevin O’Connell deserves credit for keeping this team winning while the quarterback position remains unsettled. Minnesota has survived ugly games, but the offense hasn’t exactly been convincing.
Four wins still count as four wins. But I’m ranking teams based on how I think they stack up, not handing out participation trophies for perfect records.
Until the quarterback play becomes more dependable, Minnesota stays behind several teams with a loss. Eventually, somebody on the other sideline is going to make you throw the football.
8. Los Angeles Rams (2-2)
The Rams were staring at a miserable situation against Philadelphia. Falling to 1-3 with Buffalo coming up would have put them in an uncomfortable position, especially with two NFC West rivals already ahead of them.
Instead, Los Angeles erased a 10-point deficit and escaped with a 24-20 win. Matthew Stafford and the offense showed they can respond when things start going sideways.
At 2-2, there’s still plenty to prove, but the Rams bought themselves some breathing room. Now they need to do something with it.
9. Baltimore Ravens (3-1)
Derrick Henry apparently missed the meeting where running backs are supposed to slow down with age. He’s still a problem for opposing defenses, and Baltimore may need every bit of that production.
Lamar Jackson’s ankle injury changes the conversation. Henry can carry a heavy workload, but he can’t replace everything Jackson brings to the offense.
The upcoming schedule offers some relief, with Atlanta and Cleveland next on the board. Baltimore belongs in the top 10, but how much higher it climbs depends heavily on who’s available to run the offense.
10. Denver Broncos (2-2)
Denver is still finding its footing with Davis Webb handling the offensive play-calling. The results have been uneven, and it wouldn’t shock me if Sean Payton eventually decided he’d rather have those responsibilities back himself.
Jaylen Waddle finally scored his first touchdown with Denver, but the secondary offensive weapons haven’t delivered enough from what should be a deep group. The running game is another disappointment, particularly considering the quality of the offensive line.
They have enough pieces to be dangerous, yet the offense still spends too much time looking like everybody received a different copy of the game plan. If Denver expects to make a serious postseason run, that needs to change.
The Rest of Our 2026 Week 5 NFL Power Rankings
The middle of these rankings is where things become complicated. Several teams have winning records without looking particularly convincing, while others have enough talent to climb quickly.
| Rank | Team | Record |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | Philadelphia Eagles | 2-2 |
| 12 | Las Vegas Raiders | 3-1 |
| 13 | New England Patriots | 2-2 |
| 14 | Cincinnati Bengals | 2-2 |
| 15 | New York Giants | 3-1 |
| 16 | Detroit Lions | 2-2 |
| 17 | Dallas Cowboys | 2-2 |
| 18 | Cleveland Browns | 3-1 |
| 19 | Carolina Panthers | 2-2 |
| 20 | Indianapolis Colts | 2-2 |
| 21 | Green Bay Packers | 2-2 |
| 22 | Pittsburgh Steelers | 2-2 |
| 23 | Atlanta Falcons | 2-2 |
| 24 | New Orleans Saints | 1-3 |
| 25 | Washington Commanders | 1-3 |
Las Vegas at No. 12 and Cleveland at No. 18 are good examples of why I don’t simply sort teams by their records. Both have started 3-1, but I’m not convinced either belongs alongside the strongest contenders just yet.
New England deserves credit for beating Buffalo, especially with Drake Maye making big plays when the Patriots needed them. One upset, however, doesn’t automatically turn a 2-2 team into a Super Bowl favorite.
Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Detroit also have plenty of work ahead. There’s talent in all three locker rooms, but talent alone doesn’t cash a ticket.
Week 5 NFL Power Rankings: The Bottom Seven
Houston, Tampa Bay, the Chargers, Miami, and Tennessee are winless, while the Jets and Cardinals haven’t given us many reasons to move them much higher. Some of these teams have legitimate talent, but talent doesn’t help much when you’re finding a new way to lose every Sunday.
| Rank | Team | Record |
|---|---|---|
| 26 | Houston Texans | 0-4 |
| 27 | New York Jets | 1-3 |
| 28 | Arizona Cardinals | 1-3 |
| 29 | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 0-4 |
| 30 | Los Angeles Chargers | 0-4 |
| 31 | Miami Dolphins | 0-4 |
| 32 | Tennessee Titans | 0-4 |
Houston at 0-4 is one of the bigger disappointments through the first month. The Texans entered the season with expectations considerably higher than 26th in anybody’s rankings, yet here they are.
The Chargers have also made a habit of giving opponents opportunities, while Miami and Tennessee are struggling to find offensive consistency. At some point, explanations stop being useful and the results become the entire conversation.

What the Week 5 NFL Power Rankings Mean for Bettors
Kansas City sitting at No. 1 doesn’t mean I’m automatically laying whatever number the sportsbooks post, and Minnesota being seventh doesn’t mean I’m looking to fade the Vikings every week.
A good football team can still be a bad bet at the wrong price.
Four games provide useful information about coaching, injuries, offensive efficiency, and defensive weaknesses. They don’t tell us everything, and they certainly don’t justify throwing out every opinion we held before the season.
For more insight from our sports handicappers, explore the experts and their approaches to breaking down matchups. I still want to see how a team matches up with its next opponent, whether injuries change the situation, and whether the betting line leaves any value.
That’s a lot more useful than blindly backing whoever moved up three spots in somebody’s rankings.
Razor Ray’s Betting Take
A power ranking tells you how I rate the teams. It doesn’t tell you whether the point spread is worth playing. Check the matchup, compare the NFL odds, and make the number earn your money.

Comparing prices before making a selection is one of the simplest habits a bettor can develop. A half-point here or a better price there can make a difference over the course of a season.

Razor Ray’s Final Take on the Week 5 NFL Rankings
Kansas City and San Francisco look like legitimate Super Bowl threats. Buffalo and Seattle aren’t far behind, Jacksonville has earned some respect, and Minnesota keeps winning despite questions at quarterback.
The bigger question is which teams can maintain this level when injuries pile up and the schedule gets tougher. October has a funny way of exposing teams that looked unstoppable in September.
I’ll keep adjusting these rankings as the season develops, but don’t confuse a team’s place on this list with an automatic betting recommendation. The best team doesn’t always cover, and the worst team in football can still cash a ticket when the number is right.
