Let’s take a look at Ray Monohan’s 2024 Week 1 NFL Power Rankings for the 2024 season.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (0-0)
The Chiefs start their quest for a three-peat with the best group of pass-catchers they’ve assembled for Patrick Mahomes, which is just going to make them even more dangerous. They had to make some business decisions on the defensive side of the ball, but if the offense is even more explosive as we expect it to be, that’s not going to matter.
2. San Francisco 49ers (0-0)
Locking in Brandon Aiyuk late in the offseason is a big deal as having a receiver who can win out wide really helps the Kyle Shanahan offense reach its top gear. The defense should still be humming with another new defensive coordinator as Nick Bosa works towards a Defensive Player of the Year campaign.
3. Cincinnati Bengals (0-0)
Ja’Marr Chase drama aside, the Bengals are in great shape to again compete for the AFC crown. Joe Burrow is fully healthy to start the season and should light it up behind an improved offensive line. And some holes were quietly plugged on the defensive side which makes this one of the more complete teams in the league.

4. Detroit Lions (0-0)
There wasn’t much turnover to a roster that was just a few missed opportunities from reaching the Super Bowl. Some of their young studs should take a step forward and the return of Ben Johnson and the continuity that brings can’t be understated. A slight improvement on defense will have this team in the title hunt.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (0-0)
A victory in Week 1 against a good Packer team in Brazil could have the Eagles climbing this list rather quickly. The addition of Saquon Barkley to an already potent offense should maximize the Kellen Moore offense. And Vic Fangio is the type of defensive coordinator who should whip that defense back into shape in no time.
6. Baltimore Ravens (0-0)
We’ve seen all we can from Lamar Jackson and this version of the Ravens. It’s time for them to win the big games. They’re the kind of team that wants to fast forward past the regular season, but they’ll have to contend with a tough schedule to get where they want to go.
7. Green Bay Packers (0-0)
Despite some changes at running back, the Packers are hoping Jordan Love can continue the momentum we saw from the Packers offense late last season. They gave him a big contract to match some of the elite quarterbacks in the game – now it’s on him to take them to the promised land.
8. Houston Texans (0-0)
The Texans won’t be able to catch anyone off guard this season, but the front office went right to work building on last year’s success and parlaying the early years of C.J. Stroud’s contract into some major assets alongside him in Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon. DeMeco Ryans should keep the defensive side on lockdown.
9. Buffalo Bills (0-0)
The offense is going to be a work in progress to start the season. The team is rotating in an entirely new receive corps and hoping Josh Allen can continue to produce the way he has in recent years. The defensive line is going to be very strong, but there are some red flags that this is a team likely headed for a multi-year decline. Don’t be surprise if this is the highest spot they occupy in the power rankings all year long.
10. New York Jets (0-0)
The Jets put all their eggs in Aaron Rodgers’ basket last year and it did not pay off. This year they’re hoping his return will be the spark this roster needs to finally reach their potential.
