Some History
Last season, Lamar Jackson became the second unanimous MVP in league history (Tom Brady in 2010) and the seventh consecutive different quarterback to win the award.
Seven QBs in a row is unprecedented. The last MVP who did not play quarterback was Adrian Peterson in 2012; and the last before him was LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006. A quarterback has won the MVP in 12 of the last 13 seasons.
The last MVP who didn’t play quarterback or running back was Lawrence Taylor in 1986 for the New York Giants. The only other defensive player to ever win the MVP was Alan Page in 1971, back when each conference named its own MVP.
Since 1980, when the league started awarding a single MVP, only Taylor and Mark Moseley — a kicker — have won it playing a position other than QB or halfback.
The Quarterbacks
Patrick Mahomes – 2020 NFL MVP Betting Odds
It is no surprise then that the ten leading favorites in 2020 all play quarterback, beginning with the 2018 MVP and reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes at 6/1. He should begin the regular season healthy with no fewer weapons in his arsenal.
Lamar Jackson – 2020 NFL MVP Betting Odds
Lamar Jackson comes next at +750. The list of players to have won back-to-back MVPs is as follows: Jim Brown, YA Tittle, Walter Payton (NFC MVP), Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning (who did it twice, though he was named a co-MVP with Steve McNair in one of those seasons).
Russell Wilson – 2020 NFL MVP Betting Odds
Russell Wilson (9/1), who has yet to win an MVP, the young Kyler Murray (10/1), who has DeAndre Hopkins to throw to now, and Tom Brady (12/1), one of two players all-time to win at least three MVPs (Manning has five), round out the top five.
Watson – Prescott – Rodgers – Brees
Both DeShaun Watson and Dak Prescott (18/1) have the chance to stand out if they lead their team to the playoffs.
Aaron Rodgers (22/1) could join Brady as the third player to win at least three MVPs. After consistently falling just short as a perennial favorite, could Drew Brees (22/1) win his first at age 41?
The Rest
Christian McCaffrey – 2020 NFL MVP Betting Odds
Christian McCaffrey’s 2019 would have warranted some votes had Jackson not gone completely bonkers. He is the first non-QB on the board at 25/1 but comes into the season playing for a new head coach in Matt Rhule and behind new starting quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater.
Elliot & Henry
Ezekiel Elliott (28/1) and Derrick Henry (50/1) are the only other two names in a list of 23 players inside of 50/1. Twenty of the 23 are quarterbacks.
Michael Thomas – 2020 NFL MVP Betting Odds
Michael Thomas, who caught 92 balls as a rookie in 2016 and has increased his reception total in each of the three subsequent seasons, is the first receiver on the board at 66/1. He has led the league in catches for the last two years.
Jones & Beckham Jr.
Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. (both 100/1) are the only other two receivers on the board at Betonline.
And you won’t find a defensive player until you reach the 100/1 shots: Aaron Donald, JJ Watt, Nick Bosa and TJ Watt.

2020 NFL MVP Betting Odds – FREE PICK: Russell Wilson +900 (Bet Now at any of our reviewed NFL Sportsbooks!)
You can’t tell me today that he can’t win this award. He has been close every year he’s been in the league. He’s due. Seattle offense is going to be better in 2020, and with Metcalf and Lockett at wideout RW3 has weapons.
