+2000: 2020 NFL Coach Of The Year Betting Odds – Mike McCarthy – Dallas Cowboys
56 years old, Head Coach Green Bay 2006-2018
McCarthy lasted 13 seasons as Green Bay’s head coach after taking over for Bob Sherman back when Brett Favre was still the starting quarterback. He finished 125–77 with the Packers and led them to a victory in Super Bowl XLV.
Prior to taking the job in Green Bay, McCarthy served as an offensive coordinator in New Orleans and San Francisco and before that as an assistant beginning in 1993. He did not coach in the NFL last season.
He succeeds Jason Garrett, who had been the head coach in Dallas since 2011 but couldn’t survive another 8–8 season in 2019. The Cowboys are 20/1 in Super Bowl markets and +135 in the NFC East.
+2800: 2020 NFL Coach Of The Year Betting Odds – Ron Rivera – Washington Redskins
58 years old, Head Coach Carolina 2011-2019
The Panthers fired Rivera after a 5–7 start in 2019 and didn’t win another game. Rivera finished 79–67 in eight-plus seasons, qualified for the playoffs four times and reached Super Bowl L in the same season he won the Coach of the Year Award.
Before becoming the head coach in Carolina, Rivera was an NFL assistant for several different teams over 14 seasons. He won Super Bowl XX with Chicago as a linebacker.
Rivera takes over for Jay Gruden, who was fired in the middle of season, and Bill Callahan, who took over in the interim. The Redskins finished last season 3–13 and are 100/1 long-shots to win the Super Bowl and 10/1 in the NFC East.
+4000: 2020 NFL Coach Of The Year Betting Odds – Matt Rhule — Carolina Panthers
45 years old, Rookie
Rhule has just one year of NFL experience from his time as an assistant with the Giants in 2012. He was most recently the head coach at Baylor for three years and had his best season last year when the Bears finished the regular season 11–1 but lost the Big-12 Championship and the Sugar Bowl.
Before Baylor, he was the head coach at Temple for four seasons.
Carolina finished 5–11 last season and 0–4 after firing Rivera. The Panthers are 80/1 in Super Bowl markets and 20/1 long-shots in the division.
+4000: 2020 NFL Coach Of The Year Betting Odds – Joe Judge — New York Giants
38 years old, Rookie
Judge makes three new head coaches in the NFC East. He won three Super Bowls as New England’s special teams coordinator and two BCS National Championships as a special teams assistant before that with Alabama.
He earned three varsity letters as a player at Mississippi State and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Judge takes over for Pat Shurmur, who lasted two seasons as the head coach in New York. The Giants finished 4–12 last season and are 66/1 to win the Super Bowl and 8/1 in the division.
Judge will benefit from the Jason Garrett brings to the table as New York’s new offensive coordinator.
+2000: 2020 NFL Coach Of The Year Betting Odds – Kevin Stefanski — Cleveland Browns
37 years old, Rookie
The youngest of the five new head coaches and the only one in the AFC, Stefanski coached in Minnesota from 2006-2019. He ascended to offensive coordinator before the start of last season.
Stefanski was named to the First Team All-Ivy League as a player at the University of Pennsylvania.
He takes over for Freddie Kitchens, who lasted just one full season as the head coach in Cleveland. The Browns are 33/1 to win the Super Bowl and 5/1 in the AFC North.
