Here’s a look at 10 teams worthy of closer consideration when putting money down on NHL futures.
Let’s break it down.
2019 Stanley Cup Futures Betting Odds
Toronto Maple Leafs +510
The Leafs weren’t thinking about a slow ascent of their young talent when they signed John Tavares – they want to win now.

Tavares has paired with budding star Mitch Marner to form one of the more lethal line pairings in the league. They’ll need to get Auston Matthews and William Nylander back on the ice to really find that next level and have fans start thinking about 1967 again.
Tampa Bay Lightning +560
The Lightning are so talented and have been for so long that it’s easy to look past them, but this team may actually be better than they’ve been in past years with the emergence of a few talented forwards. This is a team that can survive some injuries because they’re so deep, making a bet on them a little safer than most.
Nashville Predators +660
The Predators are enough team that’s easy to overlook because there are no surprises here. This is the same core group that’s been so good for a few years now.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
They’ll also need to figure out a way to finally break through and win that elusive Cup to really segment this core group’s legacy in Nashville.
Buffalo Sabres +1300
Sabres fans have waited a long time to enjoy the kind of run the team has gone on in the month of November. The team’s rebuild went on so long it may have felt like it would never end, but the team is finally reaping the rewards of all the talent it’s accumulated in recent years. The team found itself in first place in the overall standings after the month of October for the first time since 2007.
Winnipeg Jets +1300
The Jets seem to always be an afterthought when discussing the elite teams in the West, but they’re as good as any, and can beat any team on any given night. That’s why they continue to be a great value on the futures board. Translating that success into wins in May and June are needed to get this team some national recognition.
San Jose Sharks +1600
The addition of Erik Karlsson was supposed to be the final piece to really put the Sharks over the top, and establish them as the team to beat in the West. While it hasn’t really worked out that way, the arrow is pointing up on San Jose in a wide-open Pacific Division.
Washington Capitals +1600
The Capitals got off to a really slow start this season, but the team has found its legs and has taken advantage of a slow start from their Metro counterparts to actually slide atop the division standings.
Pittsburgh Penguins +2500
The Penguins seem to have figured out their path to the playoffs, as it’s one they’ve employed a few times now. The early part of the regular season is a bit of a write-off. They’re going to wait a bit longer before really coming on and peaking as the playoffs begin. If you’re a believer, now’s a good time to grab them before they lose their value.
New York Islanders +3000
The Islanders have hung with the big boys in the Eastern Conference in the early going. It’s been fun to watch, but this team doesn’t have enough talent to play into May.
Dallas Stars +3500
The Stars are an enigma. A quick look at this roster would indicate they’re good enough to be atop their division and play into the postseason, but that never seems to be the case. Perhaps they figure things out this year.
