NFL Handicapping Insight
Here’s a look at who is favored to win the 2017-18 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of The Year Predictions: Leonard Fournette (JAX) +450
It’s no surprise to see the first running back taken off the board as being the odds makers favorite to win this years NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
In college he was dominant, and if it wasn’t for a few injuries he could have been even more dominant. Coming into the NFL some have tabbed him as a once in a generation talent and a few expect him to have a year like Ezekiel Elliott had last year.
One thing that could either work to his advantage or disadvantage is that he is on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He is going to get as many touches as he wants in that backfield, but if Blake Bortles doesn’t improve they might be able to load up the box and really just try and shut him down. I expect him to have a big year, but as a favorite I don’t think he has a ton of value.
2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of The Year MVP Predictions: Christian McCaffrey (CAR) +550
Christian McCaffrey might be the most exciting offensive player coming out of this draft. He is a do it all and could serve many purposes in an already exciting Panthers offense.
In three years at Standard he rushed for almost 4000 yards and had 1206 yards receiving and 31 total touchdowns. He is going to be a really good threat with Cam Newton and the option style offense.
One thing that could hold him back is Jonathan Stewart. They signed him to a new contract in the off season so that means he will probably still have a roll in this offense. If Jonathan Stewart ends up getting a decent amount of snaps this season that could really hurt his chances.
2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of The Year Predictions: Deshaun Watson (HOU) +550
Deshaun Watson comes into this season tied with McCaffrey as the second best odds to win the Rookie of the Year and I think he should be the favorite.
Tom Savage is the only thing between Watson and the starting job for the Houston Texans, and honestly I don’t think Savage has much of a chance to keep the job.
The Texans have all the pieces around the team to make a Super Bowl run, the only thing they are missing is a quarterback.
All he has to do is make good decisions with the ball and his stats will look good. If he can lead this team into the playoffs and a good record I think he will win this award. My money is with him.
2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of The Year Predictions: Joe Mixon (CIN) +1200
One of the most controversial figures to come out of this years draft was Joe Mixon. He will try to put his troubled past behind him when he takes the field for the Cincinnati Bengals.
He is a really good running back no doubt, but he is joining a backfield in Cincinnati that is very crowded. I think he will get maybe 40 percent of the snaps which will really hurt his chances.
2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of The Year Predictions: Patrick Mahomes (KC) +2000
One of the other dark horses I like in this race is Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs are not committed to Alex Smith this year and there is a chance Mahomes could come in and still his job.
If he does that I really like his chances to win this award. He had some impressive numbers in college and I think his game will relate well in the NFL.
