The third major of the season will be played this weekend when the best players in the world head to Oakmont Country Club for the 2025 U.S. Open. The tournament gets underway Thursday with the usual list of star players all in attendance, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Xander Schauffele.
DeChambeau is the defending champion, looking to become the first U.S. Open winner to successfully defend his title since Brook Koepka repeated in 2017-18. Scheffler is the betting favorite, followed by McIlroy, DeChambeau, Rahm, and Schauffele to round out the top five.
This Week on the PGA Tour
The first two majors of the season haven’t been kind to bettors looking for players at longer odds on the betting board, as Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler were each occupying the top two slots on the odds board entering the Masters and PGA Championship where they emerged victorious.
Now the players go to Oakmont which is hosting the United States’ national championship for the 10th time, and the first since Dustin Johnson won in 2016. As this tournament has the reputation for, this will be a tough test for the players, so we’re unlikely to see another winning score of double digits below par.
Johnson’s victory at Oakmont saw his finish three clear of the field with a four-under total score. The winning score should once again be around even par as the USGA never seeks to make things easy on the players at this event.

Conners would like nothing more than to win his national open, and he arrives this year with four top-10s and another three top-20 finishes in his first 12 starts of 2025. He’s feeling it right now and he’ll be extra motivated to win on his home soil.

The U.S. Open is no stranger to repeat champions. Rory won here consecutively in 2019 and 2022 (the tournament wasn’t played in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID) and Jhonattan Vegas won in 2016 and 2017. MacIntyre enters the week in fine form coming off a T6 and T20 in his last two starts.

Another Canadian looking to win his national open, Pendrith is another Canuck arriving to TPC Toronto in solid form. He’s coming off a T5 at the PGA Championship and a T12 at Muirfield Village last week, so he can certainly hang with this field.
