The PGA Tour will be in Cromwell, Connecticut this week for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. Defending champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be in the field this week to defend his title after he outlasted Tom Kim in a playoff in 2024. That win was Scheffler’s sixth in his historic 2024 season that also saw him capture Olympic gold in Paris.
With this being the season’s final Signature Event, many of the top 50 players in the world golf rankings will tee it up this week. Notably, this will be the first event since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March that the top two players in the world will be in the field at a signature event.
This Week on the PGA Tour
Joining Scheffler in this week’s field is Rory McIlroy – the Nos. 1 and 2 players in the Official World Golf Ranking. The duo didn’t impress in the early rounds of the Travelers Championship at Oakmont, but both did survive the cut and make it through to the weekend. This eighth and final signature event of the PGA Tour season does not have a 36-hole cut, so all players in the 72-player field will compete for the full 72 holes.
Scheffler and McIlroy are two of the nine players in the top 10 of the world rankings who will be teeing it up at TPC River Highlands this week. Eighteen of the top 20 in the world rankings, and 45 of the top 50 golfers in the world, which should make for another spectacular week of golf.
Within that top 50 are more previous winners of this event – world no. 3 Xander Schauffele won in 2022, world no. 17 Harris English won in 2021, world No. 18 Keegan Bradley won in 2023, and world No. 47 Jordan Spieth won in 2017.
Of the top 50 players not in this week’s field, two are ineligible because of their participation on the LIV Tour – Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrell Hatton – two are out with injuries – Billy Horschel (hip) and Sahith Theegala (neck) – and world no. 19 Justin Rose missed the cut at the Travelers Championship and failed to qualify.

Morikawa doesn’t have a win yet in 2025, but he’s been stacking strong finishes and one should be in the cards for him soon and he captures his seventh PGA Tour win. Morikawa’s finished inside the top 25 in three of his last four starts, and his game fits TPC River Highlands nicely with its emphasis on strong iron play.

Young is still winless on Tour, but this week looks like a great spot for him to finally break through. Young is coming off consecutive top-five finishes at the RBC Canadian Open and the Travelers Championship, and last year on this course he finished inside the top 10 of this tournament, buoyed by a round of 59 on Saturday.
