The PGA Tour heads to Detroit this week for the seventh edition of the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club. Cameron Davis returns to defend his title after winning this event for the second time a year ago with a score of 18-under in the Motor City.
Davis has won two of the six versions of this event, which was first played in 2019. Bryson DeChambeau is the only former winner not in this week’s field after he left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf.
This Week on the PGA Tour
It isn’t unusual for us to see major championship winners take some time off to enjoy their victory, but J.J. Spaun stuck with his commitment to the Travelers Championship and played last week, immediately after his U.S. Open victory. But Spaun elected to pull his name from the commitment list for this event.
With his U.S. Open win, Spaun shot up the world rankings by 17 spots to No. 8. That had Spaun as the second highest ranked golfer in this week’s field behind only Collin Morikawa. Morikawa is now the only player in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking who will be participating in this week’s event.
The next highest ranked player in the field this week is world No. 11 Hideki Matsuyama. They’re two of the 12 players in the top 50 of the world rankings making up this week’s field, which includes 10 major championship winners and 67 PGA Tour winners with a combined 195 career victories.
Akshay Bhatia returns this week after a very disappointing finish in last year’s event. Bhatia sat atop the leaderboard for most of the tournament before three-putting the final hole to fall back into a tie for second place and ceding the win to Davis.
While this is only the seventh edition of this tournament, which began in 2019, the Detroit Golf Club has a history that extends much farther back, all the way to 1899. It features two courses: the North and South Course. This event will be played on the North Course, which is a classic Donald Ross design, leveraging the natural terrain for a relatively flat course lined with trees. Shots off the tee will carry added weight this week, with a premium on driving accuracy.

Cantlay is coming off another strong result at TPC River Highlands where he finished T12, closing out all four of his rounds below par. He’s due for a big step forward into his elite form and this is a good spot to do it. Cantlay finished T2 in his only start here in 2022.

It feels like Hall’s game is on the ascent. He arrives in Detroit having made the cut in 10 consecutive starts, with six of those coming as top 25 finishes, including five in a row. He’s coming off a top 10 finish at the Travelers, and his balanced game could lend itself well to this week’s layout.
2025 Rocket Classic Free Picks & Golf Betting Odds: Emiliano Grillo +7500
Grillo enters this event in very good form, with four consecutive top 25 finishes, including a T19 at the U.S. Open. He ranks inside the top 50 on Tour in both approach play and putting, and that will give him a good shot to jump up the leaderboard in a shallow field.
2025 Rocket Classic Free Picks & Golf Betting Odds: Cameron Davis +8000
Davis doesn’t enter this tournament in good form, but this course is a great spot for him to round back into form. Davis enters as the defending champion, having won in 2021 and 2024, and finished no worse than T17 in 2022 and 2023. He’s worth a shot to see if he can continue his success on this course.
