Rory McIlroy headlines this week’s field for the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Ontario. McIlroy skipped last week’s signature event – the Memorial Tournament – instead choosing to play a three-week stretch of the RBC Canadian Open, the U.S. Open, and the Travelers Championship, which is the final signature event of the season.
The world No. 2 has won this event twice before, in 2019 and 2022. He’s been a fixture inside the top 10 at this event, finishing T9 in 2023 and T4 in 2024. That run of 1-T9-T4 took place over three different venues, with this year’s tournament at TPC Toronto marking the fourth different venue in as many years.
This Week on the PGA Tour
This event slots in nicely on the golf calendar, with the U.S. Women’s Open ending this past Sunday, and the men’s U.S. Open being played next week at Oakmont. This tournament is the second-oldest non-major on the Tour schedule behind only the BMW Championship/Western Open, which started in 1899.
Rory is one of six players in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Rankings in this week’s field. Those players are Ludvig Aberg, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, defending champion Robert MacIntyre, and Canadian Corey Conners. Fellow Canadian Nick Taylor of Abbotsford B.C. is also in the field – he won his national tournament in 2023 with a 72-foot putt to close out a playoff victory.
That’s one of many memorable moments in this historic tournament, whose past winners include Lee Trevino, Greg Norman, Curtis Strange, Nick Price, and Arnold Palmer, whose 1955 Canadian Open victory was his first PGA Tour title.
Taylor and Conners are two of 20 Canadian players in this week’s field competing at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, including Ontarians Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes, and Ben Silverman, and B.C. natives Adam Hadwin and Adam Svensson.
Hosting for the first time this week, TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley will become the 38th golf course to host the RBC Canadian Open, following its major renovation in 2023 to accommodate hosting large-scale competitions. A total of 156 players will be competing for the $9.8 million purse.
