Torrey Pines will serve as the backdrop to a second PGA Tour event this year when this week’s Genesis Invitational descends on the fabled course. The Tour recently announced a move to the San Diego venue which earlier this year hosted the Farmers Insurance Open. The Tour was forced to move the event away from Riviera Country Club due to the wildfires impacting Los Angeles County.

Tiger Woods will make his return to the PGA Tour for this event which he hosts under the TGR Foundation umbrella. For Tiger, it will be hist first start since the Open Championship at Royal Troon in July.

Tiger leads a loaded field featuring some of the best players in the world including No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, world No. 3 and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner Rory McIlroy, and other big names including Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Viktor Hovland, Tom Kim, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas. Xander Schauffele, a San Diego native, remains out due to a rib injury.

This Week on the PGA Tour

As a signature event, the players will compete for a $20 million purse. This week’s 72-player field includes 46 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings, including defending champion Hideki Matsuyama. They’ll compete in the 99^th playing of this signature event.

They’ll compete at Torrey Pines where Tiger’s wins include the 2008 U.S. Open and seven Farmers Insurance Open championships between 1999 and 2013, highlighted by four consecutive victories from 2005-08. We last saw Tiger win at Torrey Pines in 2020.

This marks the third signature event of the PGA Tour season, and this perk in the PGA Tour schedule has been successful in attracting the top players in the game, and making them face off on historic courses for elevated purses and FedExCup points.

This week’s event attracted the sport’s biggest draw as Tiger is back in action and walking 18 holes in competition for the first time since a microdiscectomy in September to relieve pain in his legs – his sixth surgery on his lower back.

2025 Genesis Invitational Free Picks & Golf Betting Odds: Ludvig Aberg +2500

Aberg started hot at Torrey Pines less than a month ago with an opening round 63 before he battled an illness and closed with weekend rounds of 74 and 79 which saw him plummet down the leaderboard. If we can see more of that Round 1 form he could control this tournament.

Finau’s been inconsistent this year with two top-15 finishes and two missed cuts. He has a solid history at Torrey Pines, with six top-10 finishes here since 2016, and another two top-20 finishes on top of that.

Hovland looks to be one of the better value plays on the board. We haven’t seen him play on this course since the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open which saw him finish second. He’s coming off a 22^nd-place finish at Pebble Beach which could be the spark that ignites something bigger.

We may be witnessing Woodland regaining his powers as he’s gone T16, T22, and T21 in his last three starts, all this season. His most recent appearance came at the WM Phoenix Open where he shot 70 or better in all four rounds. He’s a regular at Torrey Pines so he knows the layout, and finished 20^th or better in four straight seasons from 2016-2019.
