One of the biggest events on the PGA Tour schedule goes down this weekend as the Arnold Palmer Invitational is set to tee off a Bay Hill. The tournament features a field of 72 players, most of which make up the top 50 of the previous year’s FedEx Cup standings.
This is one of three player hosted signature events, along with the Genesis Invitational and the Memorial Tournament. As such, it offers the winner one of the biggest purses in golf, with the No. 1 spot carrying a $4 million bounty for the player who is left holding the trophy on Sunday, and a total of $20 million being distributed to the players after four rounds.
This Week on the PGA Tour
Last year’s winner is in this field, as Scottie Scheffler is back at Bay Hill looking to defend his five-shot victory in 2024. That win was the first in what became an incredible season for the American which included his second Masters win, an Olympic gold medal, and the FedEx Cup title along with several additional Tour victories. Could this tournament again kick off a memorable season?
Right below Scheffler in the Official World Golf Ranking is world No. 2 Xander Schauffele who will make his first start since a T30 at The Sentry this weekend. Schauffele’s been out with a rib cage injury since his season-opening start.
LIV Golf’s Tyrrell Hatton is the only player in the world’s top 10 not in the field this week. The winners of each of the three previous signature events this season are. Hideki Matsuyama, who won The Sentry, Rory McIlroy, winner of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and Genesis Invitational winner Ludvig Aberg are all in this week’s field.
Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and last year’s runner-up Wyndham Clark round out the remaining players in the world’s top 10 in this week’s field.
Despite holding a lifetime exemption that allows him to compete in all of the $20 million, limited-field signature events, including the Arnold Palmer Invitational, 82-time PGA Tour winner will not participate in this week’s event.

It’s not ideal teeing up players this high on the odds board, especially with the depth of this field, but with Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele still searching to find their form, Rory looks like the most likely player in this field to emerge victorious. He’s played well at Bay Hill in his career, finishing 13th or better every year from 2017 to 2023, winning in 2018 and finishing runner-up in 2023.

Cantlay is a player who seems poised for a breakthrough, having finished outside the top 25 in only one event since last year’s U.S. Open. He’s finished T5 in two of his last three starts, and seems destined to be in contention once again this week.

This price range has some good options, but we’ll go with Griffin here as he’s coming off T4 finishes at both the Mexico Open and Cognizant Classic. He finished T14 at this event in 2023, so we know he can compete here as well.
