Due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, we’ll be having a Fall Masters this year. And, actually, picturing Tiger and co. walking Augusta National with the leaves beginning to change color doesn’t seem half bad.
CappersPicks is open for business, and we’ll be keeping our eye on the odds for this year’s Masters as they develop! Let’s look at today’s favorites.
2020 Masters Tournament Betting Odds:
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Rory McIlroy +750
Rory has been the Vegas favorite for the past five tournaments or so, and for good reason! The world #1 continues to play great golf week-in and week-out. Here are Rory’s past five starts:
-T5th at Arnold Palmer Invitational
-5th at WGC-Mexico
-T5th at The Genesis Invitational
-T3rd at Farmers Insurance Open
-1st at WGC-HSBC Champions
That’s an impressive string of results, and if he stays in decent form during quarantine, he’ll be the guy to beat at Augusta. Additionally, PGATOUR.COM’s Cameron Morfit wrote this article on why he believes a November Masters will benefit Rory.
Also worth noting: Rory needs a Green Jacket to complete the career grand slam…
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Brooks Koepka +1000
I’m going to be completely honest to all four of my fans reading this: I’m all out on Brooks right now.
My god he’s had a terrible stretch of results. In his last six starts, he has two missed cuts and a WD. In the three tournaments he actually finished, he went T43rd, T47th, T37th.
However, it is common knowledge that Brooks has been dealing with some sort of knee injury. The time off could help him heal up that bum knee and get back to doing what he does best: Winning majors.
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Tiger Woods +1000
For the first time in 15 years (!!!), I get to write this sentence: Defending Champion Tiger Woods Is Returning To Augusta.
All capitals for emphasis. Tiger has had a pretty good year so far, too. In four starts, he has three top-10s and no missed cuts.
Due to his old age (and balding head), Tiger doesn’t play as much as he used to. Because of this, the Masters being moved to the Fall is a huge advantage for him. He’ll come into Augusta well-rested and with healthy knees, a healthy back, and a healthy neck.
It’s also worth noting that, when he plays, Tiger performs well at Augusta. He’s only missed the cut here once, in 1996, and here’s his Masters finishes over the past decade:
Tiger is always a heavy public favorite, however, especially at this tournament. So, while he’s not a bad pick, it might be worth looking at just how overvalued he might become.
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Jon Rahm +1200
Vegas has Rahm consistently near the top every tournament. He has two solo seconds and a T3rd but has yet to register a win this season.
The hot-headed Spaniard is a great golfer. He’s the #2 world overall and has been scoring great so far this season. He’s driving the ball well, averaging 310 yards/drive and hitting the fairways at a 65% clip. Also interesting, he’s top-five on tour in sand saves (64%) and top-10 in birdies/round.
Rahm is as consistent as they come. Five top-10s in six starts this season, and his only other finish was a T17th at the Genesis. A top-five or top-10 bet on Rahm in the Masters would be a great bet.
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Justin Thomas +1200
Thomas has started a lot of tournaments this season, and has had an overall great year despite some level of inconsistency.
He started off the season wicked hot. Two wins and four top-fives in his first five starts, plus a T3rd at the Phoenix Open a couple starts later.
However, he also has missed two cuts in his last four starts. But his bounce-back performance at WGC-Mexico, where he finished T6th, should give Thomas-backers confidence.
What shouldn’t give Thomas-backer confidence is this long break we’ll have before tee-off at Augusta. For a guy that plays a lot of golf, not playing any golf could have some adverse effects on his game. Let’s hope in comes into Augusta in good form and ready to pick up another major victory.
2020 Masters Tournament Free Pick (Our Recommended Betting Play):
-Before Woods won last year, each of the last 11 Masters winners was under the age of 40.
-16 of the last 21 Masters champions made the cut in their previous start on Tour.
-11 of last 13 Masters champions were ranked inside the world’s top 30.
-11 of last 12 Masters champions posted a previous top-30 at Augusta.
-No defending champion or the world No. 1 ranked player has won the Masters in the past 11 years.
Considering we’ll have to re-visit these odds come late October, here’s a couple of guys I think can win given some of the trends above.
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Rickie Fowler +2800
In the last three Masters, Rickie has finished T9th, 2nd, and T11th. Additionally, he’s only 32, ranked #27 in the world and is looking for that huge breakthrough victory.
He has three top-10s on tour this season and just finished T18th at the Arnold Palmer. The long break off Tour will give him some time to put those two recent missed cuts (Farmers Insurance Open and The Honda Classic) behind him, and if he stays in good form, this might be the year he breaks through.
2020 Masters Free Golf Betting Odds: Xander Schauffele +2000
Schauffele is a good pick here given some of the trends. The 26-year old is the world #12 overall and has had a good season so far.
He’s posted two runner-up finishes on tour so far, and his last three finishes have all been top-25s. Additionally, he finished T2nd at the Masters last year after posting a four-under final round.
Look for Xander to make another run this year.
