2020 Honda Classic Betting Odds:
Brooks Koepka +1200
This will be Koepka’s fourth start of the young season. So far, he’s placed T-43rd at the Genesis Open, T-17th at the Saudi International, and T-34th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC.
Despite his underwhelming performance so far this season, Koepka is still third in the OWGR and will be as dangerous as ever coming into this week. However, it’s important to note his knee injury that caused him to withdraw from an event earlier this year. We can’t be sure if Koepka is fully healthy or not.
Tommy Fleetwood +1200
Fleetwood has never won on tour, yet is consistently close to the top-10 in the OWGR every week.
Here at the Honda Classic, Tommy has put together quite the impressive resume. In seven starts, Fleetwood has posted five top-5s, six top-25s, and zero missed cuts. This might be the weekend he gets rid of all his demons and snatches his first Tour win.
Rickie Fowler +1400
Rickie would be a good play here. He’s won this event twice, most recently in 2017, and has five top-10s in his 14 starts here.
He’s also well rested. Fowler hasn’t started since the Phoenix Open, where he posted a T-37. Fowler missed the cut at the Farmers, but had three top-10 finishes heading into that event.
2020 Honda Classic Free Picks (Our Recommended Betting Plays):
Tommy Fleetwood -125 v Brooks Koepka
Rickie Fowler -110 v Brooks Koepka
I made my cases for Fleetwood and Fowler above, and my conclusion is that they both would be decent plays.
However, these are fade Brooks Koepka plays. While both Fleetwood and Fowler have performed well at the Honda Classic, Koepka has not. In 12 starts here, he has just one top-10, just three top-25s, and four missed cuts.
Additionally, he’s been poor on tour this season and is clearly struggling with some kind of knee injury. Meanwhile, Rickie and Fleetwood are both healthy and playing good golf. I like both of these matchup plays a lot going into this weekend.
Viktor Hovland +2800
Hovland is coming off of his first Tour victory last week, at the Puerto Rico open, where he posted 20-under to win the tournament by one stroke.
The “experts” all really like Hovland in this tournament. He’s one of the best ball-strikers there is (top-10 on tour in strokes gained off the tee) and this tournament should suit him well.
Finally, he’s on the bubble for a Masters start, and back-to-back victories just over a month away would look really good on a Magnolia Lane application right now.
Daniel Berger +3300
Daniel Berger is playing excellent golf this season.
In 2020 so far, he’s posted a T-5th at Pebble Beach, a T-9th at the Phoenix Open, and a T-17th at the Zozo Championship. He’s jumped 30 spots in the OWGR in 2020 so far.
Additionally, Berger came within an inch of winning this tournament five years ago. In 2015, Berger posted a 64 on Sunday to force sudden death with Padraig Harrington, but ultimately lost to the Irishman.
His recent stretch of good play and his history here at the event make for a good play to take a flyer on.
