Back from break, the Jets head to the United Center in Chicago to take on the Blackhawks.
Winnipeg went into the Christmas holiday with a 4-1 win over Vancouver, while Chicago took a surprising overtime loss to the mediocre Colorado Avalanche and will look to get back on track on Tuesday night.
Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg has the unfortunate situation of playing in the very tough Central Division. In sixth place currently, it’s going to be tough to gain ground when teams like Minnesota, St. Louis, and Chicago continue to play so well.
The defense is going to have to step up and stop giving up so many goals. The Jets rank 25th in the league in goals against (105) and, while the offense has some great scorers, they don’t score enough to keep up with that goals against stat.

Winnipeg is already looking like Patrik Laine’s team, despite him being an 18-year old rookie. He’s having an amazing NHL debut, with 19 goals and 11 assists through his first 36 games. He’s a goal-scoring machine and brings a huge offensive spark to the Jets.
Over Laine’s last five games, he has two goals and three assists. He’s one reason why Winnipeg ranks in the top half of the league in goals (95) and center Mark Scheifele is another. With 14 goals and 17 assists, Scheifele is on his way to his best ever NHL season.
Chicago Blackhawks
Starting goaltender Corey Crawford is back from the injured reserve list and he posted an impressive game against the Avalanche, despite the overtime loss. He had 32 saves on 34 shots, good enough for a .941 save percentage. It’s clear he doesn’t have much rust he needs to shake off.
The Blackhawks are starting to get back to full strength with Crawford’s return. At least they were until two of their top players, Marian Hossa and Artem Anisimov, sat out the last game with upper body injuries. Anisimov has been placed on the IR and he won’t play Tuesday for sure. Hossa is still day-to-day but it’s uncertain whether he’ll play against the Jets.
With two key players out, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews will have to continue their recent solid play. Toews has a goal and two assists in his last five, while Kane has two goals and four assists in his last five.

To get the win and avoid a third straight loss, the Hawks will have to fill the Hossa and Anisimov roles and limit the offense of Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The OVER is 3-1-1 in Chicago’s last five games
- Winnipeg is 6-11-2 on the road this season
