So we’re back for the start of the 7th week of the NHL season, hard to believe it’s moved as fast as it has. And what’s harder to believe is how mid the Blues have been this year.
A stark contrast between these two is goaltending. Binnington is slated for this one and he’s going to duel Georgiev at the other end and they have had polar opposite starts to their year.
Georgiev started slow despite getting wins but is now looking like the bonafide starter the Rangers knew they drafted, and Binnington started hot the first 3 games but is now looking like the guy who lost the net to Husso.
So two very different situations currently as these two are trending in different directions. But let’s take a deeper look into this Monday Night Central Division bout.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues are dead last in the NHL in goals per game which is unacceptable for this squad. They are far too talented to be sitting there and as a bettor it’s obviously concerning going into this contest.
They don’t take enough shots on goal and their shooting % is also incredibly low meaning this offence is just tragic at the moment. And with the slide of Binnington this is a recipe for disaster.
Their penalty kill is bad, they allow a ton of shots of on goal, and allow 3.69 goals per game which is 29th in the league. Yuck.
Colorado Avalanche
Despite the uncharacteristic start the Avalanche are now absolutely hummin’ and look like the team we saw hoist the Cup last season. They are 3rd in the league in goals for per game, and 7th in the league in goals allowed per game.
And I’ll reiterate that Georgiev is playing great this season. He has a 2.66 GAA and a .924 save %.
This is just terrible news for the Blues who have won 2 straight, granted, but are still playing poorly by the average numbers.

I really hate this spot for the Blues on paper. They are still sliding despite the wins with their overall play as a group.
I do have a hope the Blues turn it around because this is not the Canucks, or the Blue Jackets or some slack team with a little talent, it’s the Blues who have cup aspirations and who did give the Avalanche the toughest run for their money in the Western Conference just last year.
The biggest issue for them is Jordan Binnington. I really dislike this guy as a human, he seems incredibly arrogant and behaves like nothing is his fault.
He needs to calm down and rediscover his game, channel all that pent up anger and turn it into stopping pucks because he is not doing that at the moment.
