The Oilers are back home after a successful road trip through California and Nevada. They dropped one to the Kings to start it but then ran it out with three straight against the Ducks, Sharks and Knights.
The Oil have been pretty solid on the road this season and have struggled at home which is odd no doubt but not completely unheard of.
Kraken On A Tear
The Kraken are 8-2 in their last ten, effectively one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now and climbing the ranks of the Pacific Division very quickly as the Knights continue their plunge into mediocrity.
Matty Beniers is having a sensational rookie season for Seattle and if he continues this pace he is essentially a shoe-in for the Calder Trophy.
Seattle Kraken
If I told you the Kraken average more goals per game than the Oilers I doubt you would believe me.
Really Justin? The Kraken? The Oilers one strength is that they score a ton, no?
Well, ya but the Kraken are indeed slightly above the Oilers in goals per game at 3.7, 3rd in the NHL. The Oilers are 4th with 3.64.
The Oilers drastically outshoot the Kraken but that also means the Kraken have the best shooting percentage in the league.
Weak Division
This thread can essentially remain in any write up any of us do regarding the Pacific Division. The top teams are not nearly as strong as their counterparts in other divisions and the bottom of the barrel is a literal tire fire.
The Golden Knights as I mentioned in my last post are getting the injury bug right now and have dropped some points in their recent stretch which has given a pathway to Seattle to make some serious headway in not only leapfrogging the Kings who are just a smidge ahead of them but also to challenge Vegas for the lead.
This is a big two points for them, expect their best and most balanced attack.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers last three games has been their absolute best stretch I have seen all season. They clicked on defence, showing they do indeed know how to clear the front of the net at times and have gotten depth scoring from throughout the lineup.
Klim Kostin continues his tear and Jack Campbell has shown his GM he was worth the risk, (maybe). The usual suspects of McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman and Nugent-Hopkins, whose having his best season of his career, continue to contribute in massive ways as well.
Evander Kane Nearing Return
What’s more is that Kane looks to be entering the lineup very, very soon, much earlier than anticipated. He was skating on the top line at practice yesterday with McDavid and Yamamoto.
The issue for Edmonton right now is that in order for him to return they need to be cap compliant which at the moment they are not. I really don’t understand how such a thin team that has hardly changed since he left is in this predicament but thanks to years of Peter Chiarelli and Ken Holland in the driver’s seat, here we are.

4* Free Seattle Kraken vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL Betting Pick: Over 6.5 -125
All things considered, I do think the Oilers win this. It’s time that they get things going on home ice which has been lacklustre this season.
Having said that, -165 is a little heavy going against a team who has 2 losses in their last 10. Martin Jones is expected to start in this one who has had a resurgent year but I think will fall victim to the Oilers potent attack.
Skinner is scheduled for the Oilers who has been good but taken a slight tumble in his last 5 compared to his start of the year. Additionally, what gives me pause is this Oilers defense core and whether or not they can handle the speed and skill of the Kraken attack.
Also, I have also followed the totals this year very closely, and whenever you get a juiced total like this, take it.
All in all…Gimme the over.
