The Sharks enter the contest in Winnipeg with the third best mark in goals against per game at 2.3, and sit in second place in the Pacific Division.
Star defenseman, Brent Burns, is the early favorite for the Norris trophy just through the midway mark of the season.
The Winnipeg Jets, despite having a solid young core of players, have not taken the step forward that many projected this season and find themselves in 5th in the Central Division.
This has led to much media speculation that coach, Paul Maurice, should be on his way out of town.
San Jose Sharks
The outstanding play of Brent Burns has helped lead the Sharks to a second-place ranking in the Pacific Division. Burns leads all defenders with 19 goals and 47 points on the year.
His 47 points also lead the Sharks in points by six over the next best, and are good for 5th overall in the NHL scoring race.
Burns has developed into one of the NHL’s premier offensive defenseman since being converted back to the position after a look on forward, a position where the Sharks are strong at. Joe Pavelski leads the offense up front with 41 points of his own.

Rounding out the top-six in San Jose are Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Patrick Marleau and Joel Ward/ Tomas Hertl.
The veteran core made a run to the Stanley Cup final, and while their window is slowly closing they are poised to add to their group and make another run at a Championship come the trade deadline.
The blueline will likely be a point of emphasis for adding some depth are the core group of Burns, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Paul Martin.
Justin Braun and Brendan Dillion are solid defenders but teams are always looking to upgrade and have some insurance pre-playoffs.
In net, Martin Jones has performed like a top goalie since inheriting the #1 job in San Jose. Jones owns a .917 SV% and a 2.24 GAA on the year, with a 24-14-2 record.
Backup Aaron Dell has subbed-in well when called upon, with a .933 SV% and 1.84 GAA in his eight appearances.
Winnipeg Jets
After a terrible season a year ago, which resulted in their selection of #2 overall pick in Patrik Laine, this season hasn’t been much better.
The Jets are in 5th in the Central Division but will need to string together a strong run to be in contention for a wild card spot.
The core group is solid in Winnipeg and have a ton of special young talent to build around. Mark Scheifele is just 23 years old and sits in the top-10 of league scoring this year with 45 points.
Electric young rookie, Laine, has netted 21 goals in 42 games this season, but is currently sidelined with concussion symptoms.
Nikolaj Ehlers, Bryan Little and Jacob Trouba add to the solid foundation.
Joining them are promising top prospects such as Nic Petan, Josh Morrissey, Marko Dano, Joel Armia and Kyle Connor, who may open a Cup window in Winnipeg of their own in the coming years.

Connor Hellebuyck, a former 5th round selection, was handed the #1 gig entering the season.
However, as the losses started to add up and the team seemingly not being able to get a save at crucial times, Paul Maurice had no other option than to turn elsewhere.
Ondrej Pavelec was recalled from the AHL, and has accounted for two wins in their past two games.
He’s certainly not the long-term answer in net, but as long as they keep winning he will keep getting handed starts.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Sharks rank 3rd in goals per game at 2.3 on average
- Brent Burns is on pace for the first 30 goal season by a defenseman since Mike Green did so in 2008-09.
- San Jose is 12-10-1 on the road this year
- Mark Scheifele is 7th in the league in points with 45.
- Winnipeg is 25th in the league in goals against at 3.1
- Winnipeg is 13-9-1 at the MTS Centre this year
Free San Jose Sharks vs. Winnipeg Jets NHL Hockey Prediction:
Both teams have some solid offensive presence, so what the contest will come down to is who can keep the puck out of their own net. While Pavelec has won his two starts, he has still allowed three goals in each and is not a quality goaltender by any means.
Apparently Dustin Byfuglien is happy Pavelec is back, as he’s registered four points in the past two games.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: San Jose Moneyline
It won’t be an easy test to face Sharks in the second of a double-header, and I don’t expect a Jets win.
