A battle of two playoff-bound Pacific Division teams ensues as they jostle for positioning.
The Edmonton Oilers and the San Jose Sharks are currently tied with 93 points in 76 games played each, sitting two points back of the division leading Anaheim team.
San Jose Sharks
After competing in the Finals last season for the Cup, the Sharks will have another try at their first title in franchise history this spring.
The aging veteran cores are still core pieces that are producing, all seeking their first Cup ring in what could very well be their last real shot at it.
Joe Thornton is likely the best set-up man of his era, reaching 1,000 career assists this season and currently owning 1,391 career points, 50 of which have come in 2016-17.

Thornton is now 37 years old and the former #1 overall pick is still seeking Cup #1 for his resume.
Another veteran, Patrick Marleau, shares Thornton’s sentiment, as he was the 2nd overall pick in the same 1997 draft behind Thornton. As a career Shark, Marleau has 1,081 career points and has tallied 26 goals and 45 points this year.
The superstars taking the reins of the team are now captain Joe Pavelski, young pivot Logan Couture, and superstar defenseman, Brent Burns. Pavelski leads all Sharks forwards with 28 goals and 65 points, and Burns sits atop the team score sheet with 28 goals and 73 points.
The goaltending duo of Martin Jones and Aaron Dell has been excellent this season, with Dell owning a 2.09 GAA and .928 SV% in 18 appearances.
It will likely be Jones, who owns a .912 SV% and 2.37 GAA with 33 wins, getting the nod in this critical division game.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers have registered the 10th best goals per game mark of any team this season, scoring at an average clip of 2.9 per game.
They have improved immensely this season in their own of the rink, sitting 7th in goals against while allowing 2.5 per game.
A big reason for the turnaround is the retooled defensive corps, and the improved play of #1 netminder, Cam Talbot. A season ago, Talbot had a 2.55 GAA and a .917 SV%, where this season he’s improved upon the marks to 2.37 and .920, respectively.
The additions of Adam Larsson, Kris Russell and Matt Benning, plus the development of Darnell Nurse, have been a major factor for the Oilers’ blueline. Andrej Sekera is also have a much better season than last, and leads all Oilers defensemen with 35 points.

Enough cannot be said about Connor McDavid, who leads the league in points with 89 in his age-20 season.
McDavid is showing maturity beyond his years, much of the reason why Edmonton’s brass felt comfortable handing the captaincy to him in the summer.

4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.
The firepower is evident between the two teams, and despite solid defensive play of each, namely with the Sharks hitting the Under in half of their last 10 road games – I think the offense shines through.
