There’s some talent on these teams in a Tuesday night tilt in the City of Brotherly Love, but there’s also some ugly elements that’ve been exposed lately. It’s come to a head with the Flyers with the recent firing of general manager Ron Hextall, while the dysfunctions in the Senators franchise need no introduction.
Ottawa Senators
Ottawa is looking to leave a good impression on the road, and Philly is in the kind of tailspin that may make that possible. The Sens have some young contributors that have been asserting themselves recently, including 19-year old pup Brady Tkachuk, who notched another point last night against New York. There’s also great youngsters like D-man Thomas Chabot, center Colin White and speedy Alex Formenton, who actually got sent back down to the London Knights due to his tender age.

Ottawa can score, but they need someone to stop the puck. Starter Craig Anderson has been piss-poor so far in 2018. The fact the Sens have leaked 25 goals in the past four games is pathetic. You can have an incredibly dynamic young team, and if your goals-against metrics look like that, you aren’t winning many hockey games. If they can keep the puck out of their net on Tuesday night, Ottawa has a fair shake against the Flyers this week.
Philadelphia Flyers
The scouting report for the Flyers always seems the same; literally, decades go by and it ostensibly never changes: talent, grit and goal scoring to spare, but can’t stop pucks for love nor money. It’s the same script once again in Philly, as Brian Elliott, Calvin Pickard and Anthony Stolarz have all been brutal. The Flyers have the 29th-ranked goals against stats (shipping 3.6 per contest) and the 30th-ranked penalty kill (under 70%). Sure Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier are awesome, but you need to score boatloads of goals to atone for that side of their game.

The Orange and Black are coming off a miserable 6-0 loss at the hands of Toronto. Philly ownership has clearly had enough; some speculated that coach Dave Hakstol would be the sacrificial lamb, but turns out it was the GM Hextall, a former hot-tempered goalie for the franchise himself. The irony isn’t lost on me.
NHL Betting Trends:

Free Ottawa Senators vs. Philadelphia Flyers NHL Prediction:
Who knows what could happen in this contest of bad backstopping, but pound-for-pound, the Flyers have superior talent to the visitors.
I’ll take that to the bank, as I could see Giroux – maybe the best player in the league that people don’t talk about – having a multi-point game against the struggling Sens.
