For this game we see two beats in the east go toe to toe in Steeltown USA. The Rangers travel into Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.
The Penguins are coming off a tragically bad performance against the Devils where they lost 6-1. I had them parlayed with the Panthers both on the moneyline in my lock of the evening and both lost by substantial margins.
That’ll happen.
However, it’s not enough for me to jump on the hate train. The Penguins are allowed to have a stinker here and there especially when you sit third overall in the NHL standings.
This matchup is close as all hell. Taking the Rangers as an underdog jumps out at me right away, however the Penguins have been good at home of course and are probably hungry to get back on track after that one against New Jersey.
So, let’s dig a little deepers and figure everything out.

The Blue Shirts are a real fun team to watch this season. They recently promoted Lafreniere to the top line with Kreider and Zibanejad and has cemented his role their.
As I have said before the Rangers only real hole is their lack of secondary scoring. As a result they have been linked in trade rumours to get a piece or two this deadline day, more specifically JT Miller.

I do not want to go on about it again I know we have talked about it before but if Miller does indeed end up on this Rangers team I think they would be a real force to be reckoned with in this playoff season that lies ahead.
They already beat good teams and that addition would really put them over the top.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Speaking of JT Miller getting traded to a contender, How about if he went to the Penguins to join Crosby, Malkin and Letang for another kick at the can?
The Penguins much like their opponents in blue might be looking to add a little depth before making a run at the playoffs. Now they haven’t been linked to any particular names that I am aware of, but just for fun I enjoy picturing them doing some cap gymnastics and acquiring Miller.
Imagine if their three centermen were Crosby, Malkin and Miller? As an Oilers fan, typically I root for Sid the Kid in the playoffs because he’s a childhood hero.

So setting my trade deadline fantasies aside, let’s take into consideration that despite the Penguins being unreal they have been on a three game skid.
They have been solid at home this season so I do wonder if this is a get right game for them, but I am taking a stab at the upset here with the Rangers on the road.
The Rangers are winners of two straight and 7-2-1 in their last 10. They are playing the best hockey of their campaign so I am going with the hot hand.
Shesterkin gets the nod in this one as well who has an absurd 1.98 GAA this season so the Pens are in for an uphill battle.
