After an overtime loss to Montreal to kick off 2017, Nashville will look to grab its first win of the new year in Florida against the Panthers.
The Panthers are also looking for their first win of the new year after a 4-1 loss to Winnipeg to start 2017.
Nashville Predators
Nashville’s offense and defense took a hit when star two-way defenseman P.K. Subban went on injured reserve with a back injury. The good news is that he is making good progress and should be back in a couple of weeks.
The bad news is that he won’t be available for Friday’s game.
With Subban out, the Predators lose a solid defenseman and also someone who can make things happen on the offense end. He has 17 points on the year (7G, 10A).

The offense still has some weapons that can make things happen, though.
Right wing James Neal has been the Preds’ best goal-scorer this season. He has 14 goals on the year. However, he’s been in a bit of a slump lately and hasn’t recorded a point in his last five games.
He’ll look to break out of that slump against Florida.
Center Mike Fisher has been another solid offensive piece for Nashville. With 10 goals and 10 assists on the year, he’s been an important member of the top six.
He has a goal and an assist in his last five games.
Florida Panthers
The bizarre decision-making of the Florida front office continues to have a negative effect on the Panthers team. The Panthers have lost five out of the last six games and are struggling to find any consistency.
Injuries have been an area of concern for the Panthers as well.
Jonathan Huberdeau is still out until February with an achillies injury and Aleksander Barkov is on the injured reserve with a lower back injury.
The Panthers still have some hope of righting the ship, thanks to guys like Jaromir Jagr and Vincent Trocheck.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Trocheck has three goals and two assists in his last five games, giving him 11 and 10 on the season.
The oldest active man in the NHL, Jaromir Jagr, is continuing his historic career with a solid 16-17 campaign. In his last five, Jagr has a goal and three assists.
The Panthers will look to their veteran leaders to carry this team through injury issues and find a way to beat the Nashville Predators.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Nashville is 1-4 ATS in the last five games
- The Total has gone UNDER in four of Florida’s last five games.
