With wins in five of the last six games, the streaking Montreal Canadiens will head to New York for a tough battle against the Metropolitan Division Rangers.
After snapping a two-game losing streak with a win over Boston on Thursday, the Rangers will look to get back to consistent winning in hopes of fighting back into the top 3 in the Metropolitan Division.
Montreal Canadiens
Things are coming together for this Montreal Canadiens team under new head coach Claude Julien. The team is 5-2-0 since Julien took over after being fired by Boston.
Better play on both sides of the ice and in net has helped Montreal win four of the last five games. As usual, the offense has been solid, led by captain Max Pacioretty.
Check out the free sports picks from Cappers Picks experts today!
Pacioretty has 31 goals and 25 assists in 65 games this season, including three goals and an assist over his last five.
Center Alex Galchenyuk has been very solid this year. He has 15 goals and 20 assists in 44 games, including three goals and two assists in his last five games.
The Canadiens have looked good defensively as well. The team ranks 9th in the NHL in goals against this season and has given up just nine goals over the last five games.
New York Rangers
New York hasn’t looked quite as convincing of a team as it did a month ago. The team has had a bit of a shaky five-game stretch, going 3-2-0 in that time but having to win two of those games in overtime or shootout scenarios.
The offense has never been in doubt but the defense and goaltending have struggled at times. The Rangers rank 12th in goals against this season and Henrik Lundqvist has had some poor performances this year. He is 29-16-2 on the season, a solid record, but has a 2.63 goals against average.

Offensively, New York has been fantastic. The goal-scoring has been led by Michael Grabner, who has 26 goals and 10 assists. Over his last five games, he doesn’t have a single point, however.
Plus, Grabner’s status is in question for Saturday’s game due to a hip injury.
If he’s out, this means skaters like Chris Kreider will be called upon to generate the offense. Kreider has had a solid year, putting up 23 goals and 19 assists. He has one of each over his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone UNDER in four of Montreal’s last five games
- New York is 2-3 SU in the last five games at home
Free Montreal Canadiens vs. New York Rangers NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Rangers continue to be an offensive powerhouse, one that even the best teams have a tough time stopping. Montreal has been great recently, but I think the Rangers should pull out the W at home in Madison Square Garden.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5
The Rangers continue to score at will and I think the team should get a few goals in this one. Montreal has enough offensive power to get a couple goals as well.
NHL Free Score Prediction: Montreal 2 – New York 4
