Minnesota
The Minnesota Wild are desperate to start the second half better than they ended the first. The Wild are just 2-6-2 in their last 10 games, including a 1-7 record in their last eight.
And as it’s gone all season, the Wild are having a tough time scoring goals. Minnesota is 20th in goals, 23rd on the power play and 17th in shooting percentage.

Their defense has played much better than the offense, though goaltender Devan Dubnyk is not playing at the same level he did during the second half of last season. He comes in with a record of 18-15-5, a GAA of 2.23 and a save percentage of .914.
The Minnesota defense as a whole ranks 6th in goals allowed, 9th in shots on goal allowed and 2nd in penalty minutes.
The Wild have had their struggles against Eastern Conference opponents, winning just one of their last six games against the East.
New York
The New York Islanders will start the second half of the season trying to separate themselves from the bottom half of the Metropolitan Division, as just six points separate them from 7th place in the division.
The Islanders have played great defense for most of the season.
Their 118 goals allowed ranks 4th in the Eastern Conference, and they’ve only allowed more than two goals once in their last five games.
Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss have both been superb sharing goaltending duties, though New York’s offense has struggled to be consistent all year.
Kyle Okposo and John Tavares lead the team in points, but it’s hard to find much offense sans those two.
The Islanders have a phenomenal record against the Western Conference which gives them an obvious advantage in this spot. New York is 12-4-2 vs. Western Conference opponents, including an impressive 9-0-2 mark at home.
