An unfortunate, and kind of strange game for the Oilers. I will not complain about the refs, I think the game was actually called appropriately.
I will say the last infraction called on Desharnais in overtime I thought was a pretty weak call and that Vinny was just going to the puck to make a play and ultimately do his job.
It was an unfortunate play that in the melee ended up being a tripping minor, just an accident. Vinny played close to 20 minutes last night and was dynamite the whole way.
I am not an Oilers fan or analyst that is panicking here, I think they played great most of the night and just took their foot off the gas in the third.
And much credit to Los Angeles for making a couple more plays.
Edmonton Oilers
When I say this was a strange one for Edmonton I’m referring to the fact that they really controlled the game for the first two periods and when the Kings tried to get a little nasty and drag it into the mud the Oilers hung in there.
Bouchard took a dumb penalty adding to the long list of reasons this kid frustrates me to no end and the Kings tied it on the ensuing powerplay.
Offense
And another thing that was very strange, was that McDavid was held pointless.

That will not happen again I don’t think or least not too often. Captain Connor will absolutely go nuclear in Game 2.
Defense
I want to take a moment here to ream Bouchard a bit. I get raked over the coals on Twitter from Oil Country for even just tepid criticisms of his game.
His lows outweigh the highs for me, and that penalty last night is case in point.
Great goal, he’s showing confidence and there’s certainly good things to point to, but if Ekholm is even slightly off his game which he was last night then Bouchard isn’t the game breaker Oil Country seems to think.
Goaltending
I do think the first Kempe goal was probably one Skinner wants back but otherwise I thought he looked good and he’s not in any danger at all of losing his net.
Los Angeles Kings
Got to give the Kings credit here, they played their game well. They worked hard, stayed after their game and defended 97.
Can’t ask for much more than that if you’re their bench boss or a fan and they were beneficiaries of a few more powerplays than Edmonton got.
Offense
The problem is, that’s not likely to happen again. Maybe once or twice throughout the series but if they’re banking on beating the Oilers in 7 off the back of special teams, that’s a battle that Edmonton wins handedly.
Once again, I always said that this was going to be tighter than the public thought and that the lines indicated. The Kings have some serious players and great structure.
Defense
Doughty caught a holding call early on McDavid after getting burnt but did eventually get a solid hit on him later in the game.
Goaltending
Korpisalo looked very solid as well, great goalie, great athlete and he will continue to make life difficult for the Oilers big boys.

I have to stick with my boys here. I think you’ll see a big response and when you have the team as the series winner it seems illogical to ever bet against them.
Give me another shot at the puckline.
