Vegas came out of Game 1 with the series lead thanks to a 5-2 victory but it wasn’t as though they were overly dominant from the jump.
The game was pretty tight heading into the third period and was actually tied up at two goals a piece. Florida even outshot Vegas 35-34 when the all was said and done.
What it came down to, was special teams.
The Panthers racked up 46 minutes in penalties while going 0-for-3 on the the power play against a less than capable Golden Knights penalty kill.
When it came to discipline for the home squad, Vegas finished the night with just 18 minutes in penalties. While they did give up a shorthanded goal to start things up, they made the most of some of their chances by going 2-for-7 on the man advantage.
The loss makes it five straight in the Stanley Cup Finals for Florida, dating back to 1996.
Now that both teams have a feel for each other, and the Game 1 jitters are out of the way, can Florida even things up in the series?
Lets take a look.
Florida Panthers
This was Florida’s first loss in nearly a month after going 6-0 since their Game 4 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Panthers haven’t lost back-to-back games since Game 4 of the First round and this is just their second loss since then.
They’ll look to put the defeat behind them and tie things up before heading back to Sunrise, Florida.
Offense
Averaging 3.06 goals scored per game, the Cats offense ranks 9th in the playoffs and their power play sits at sixth with a 26.1% success rate.
While they did only score twice in Game 1, it is promising that both goals came from depth players in Eric Staal and Anthony Duclair. Head Coach Paul Maurice has to hope that he sees more success on ice from outside of the usual suspects.
Four players on the squad have at least five goals in the postseason, including Matthew Tkachuk who has a team-high of 9. He also leads the team with 21 points.

Defense
On the back end, they’re averaging 2.82 goals against which gives them the sixth best defense of all sixteen playoff teams. On the penalty kill front, they rank 13th with a 71.2% conversion rate.
Goaltending
Vegas found success getting in the kitchen of Sergei Bobrovsky in Game 1, resulting in four goals allowed on his end. That’s the most he’s given up since Game 6 of round 1 when he allowed five against the Bruins.
That being said, Bobrovsky held things together until the third period. The netminder struggled to see on the two goals from the Vegas blueliners which is something the defense will have to be aware of the rest of the series.
Bobrovsky now has a 11-3 record to go with a 2.32 goals against average and a .931 save percentage.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights came ready to play.
For the second straight game, they put up at least 5 goals on the board to make it 11 in their last two contests.
Offense
Vegas now has the second best offense through the entire playoffs, averaging 3.72 goals scored per game. Even though they converted twice on Saturday, their play on the man advantage could still use some work as they’re only clicking at a 19.7% success rate.
Both William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault have ten goals in the playoffs now, with Mark Stone close behind at 7.
Jack Eichel still leads the team with 20 points in 18 playoff games.
Defense
Out back, the Golden Knights are rocking the fourth-best defense and are averaging 2.61 goals against per game. While they held a clean sheet on the penalty kill against Florida, they have a 14th ranked penalty kill overall at 65.3%.
Goaltending
In net, Adin Hill has been solid. He stopped 33 of 35 shots on Saturday, bringing his record to 8-3 in 12 appearances with a 2.06 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

Free Florida Panthers vs. Vegas Golden Knights NHL Prediction
Florida has never won at T-Mobile Arena but what better time than the Stanley Cup Finals to break that streak.
The Panthers are 8-2 on the road this postseason and won three of four games in one of the toughest buildings in the league, that being the TD Garden in Boston.
Look for the big Cats to play a more disciplined style and bounce back in Game 2 to even up the series.
