I wonder if Tomas Hertl is regretting signing that big extension with the worst team in the NHL. Okay, that was harsh they aren’t the worse, they’re like the second or possibly third worst.
This team swung outta their ass for the fence and whiffed on it big time. They have not been past the second round since losing the finals to Pittsburgh.
They do have some talented forwards but they stuck with some very bad contracts and are entering a long, long rebuild.
On the other hand you have the Florida Panthers who granted, have some key pieces out of the lineup right now namely Duclair who pushed the pace a lot last season for this attack. He is slated to return mid season after undergoing successful surgery to repair a torn achilles.
But this Panthers squad nonetheless is very disappointing so far after making the biggest splash of the off-season trading two of their studs for Matthew Tkachuk.
Look, I hate Matthew Tkachuk with a deep, fiery, preoccupying hate. And so unfortunately I can no longer like the Panthers, so be advised on my picks with them this season.
But also from an objective hockey evaluation this trade is not looking like it’s paid dividends thus far. He is an incredible hockey player and the Panthers had no sandpaper in their game whatsoever, but they would rather have Huberdeau and Weegar I think and I said that the day the trade happened this summer.
Regardless, the Panthers are still quite a bit better and should win this game no problem (little teaser) but let’s look at what market we like.
Without further ado, let’s eat.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers 5-4-1 record good for fourth in the Atlantic is not at all where us handicappers had them projected nor did the public, nor did basically any analyst or former player.
I am not for pushing the panic button at this stage, it’s annoying and unnecessary and this team is still very good. Do teams like them, or ones like Pittsburgh or Toronto need to make a minor move to shake things up at this stage?
Potentially, but generally speaking the media and the public make way too big a deal of early season struggles in any sport, but that’s life as a fan.
With that being set, as a bettor or handicapper when teams are cold, we have to take that into account night by night don’t we?! And this team fits the bill.
What is particularly cold for them at the moment is this offences’ sticks right now. They are dead last in shooting % and 19th in the league for goals per game with a pitiful 3.0.
Which wouldn’t be terrible in 1991 but this is the new NHL guys. Sergei Bobrovsky is also slated to get the start in this one and he continues to fall from grace, beginning this season with a 3.07 GAA and .897 sv%.
San Jose Sharks
What’s worse than the Panthers offence? The Sharks offence. By a mile.
This team sits dead last in the NHL in goals per game (under 3), 28th in the league in shots on goal per game (27.3), 30th in shooting percentage, and 25th on the powerplay.
Not much going right for this squad right now with the exception of Erik Karlsson leading all defencemen in points who despite his massive contract could potentially be trade bait. Unlikely with the money, but not impossible.

Despite all I said about FLA in a critical way this is still a game they ain’t going to lose. The Sharks cannot hang with them so look for the Panthers to finish them in regulation.
Gimme the Cats.
