Well, I do not enjoy tooting my own horn but in this business you gotta sometimes. 2-0 yesterday on the ice and both were dogs.
You’re either hot or your due and right now we’re hot so let’s keep it going on the ice, massive slate tomorrow.
We start with the Oilers rolling into Toronto after handing the Bruins their first regulation loss of the season when they have led after the 2nd period. They’re hot as a pistol right now and I expect them to keep it going.
That being said the Leafs are playing some solid hockey of their own and will be looking for a little redemption Saturday night at home where they can even the season series with their Canadian counterparts.
So, let’s take a deep dive into this matchup and see what we like.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs are 7-3 in their last 10 and are coming off of an impressive victory of their own, a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Since the last time we discussed the Leafs, their stud center acquired at the deadline Ryan O’Reilly has undergone successful surgery to repair a broken finger he suffered after blocking a shot a few days ago. An awful situation, I feel so much for the dude as he’s one of my fave players and his season has been a nightmare injury wise.
The good news is that he will be back for playoffs though and should be primed for a playoff run.
Offense
Offensively this team is obviously gifted and they rank 8th in the NHL in goals per game with 3.38 a significant clip behind their opponent in this one.

Defense
Where they have a significant edge however is keeping pucks out of their net, on the season they rank 6th in the NHL in goals allowed per game at 2.66 which is exceedingly greater than Edmonton’s 3.27, the margin between the offensive production doesn’t even come remotely close to the difference here.
Goaltending
Matt Murray is expected for this one and his numbers are almost identical to Stuart Skinners. 2.80 GAA and .908 sv%.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are coming off a win over the Bruins, in regulation, in Boston, trailing 2-1 after two periods, in a game where not one of McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Kane, and Hyman recorded a point.
That is a huge statement win putting the rest of the league on notice and also must give their group a ton of confidence.
Offense
The Oilers goals in the Bruins game came from Bouchard, McLeod, and Nurse respectively. Which for this team any night is rather uncommon, but to do it against the class of the NHL in their barn is an entirely different thing.
Defense
Speaking of Nurse, the guy looks much more comfortable right now. I harp on this dude a lot but it’s probably time I give him some praise.
He’s not unworthy of criticism, but a product of the Ekholm trade is that his minutes are little less harsh for both him and Ceci.
Goaltending
Stuart Skinner gets the nod again in this one, it was reported he had the starters net at practice today by Ryan Rishaug.

Look it might be a homer pick but how can you not stay with the Oilers here. The Leafs at home are going to be hungry for a makeup win as I mentioned earlier so if you wanna get on that side I don’t blame you.
But the Oilers are hot right now and they’re winning as both a favorite and as an underdog and even more importantly they’re doing it on the road.
So, I’m staying with them until it cools off. Gambling rules.
Also, a player prop play you might need to take is for McDavid to score or record a point. Doubtful he stays off the sheet two games in a row.
